To worry about toddler with no dominant hand?

DS is 2 months away from his 2nd birthday and I can't tell if he is left or right handed. He seems to use both completely interchangeably when he's eating or colouring. We try not to influence him either way, putting cutlery in the middle and letting him pick etc.

His big sister was clearly and unambiguously right handed before she even turned 1, so it seems strange to me that he hasn't picked a preferred hand yet and I'm wondering if it's something that needs checking out. But maybe she was just early?

When could you tell that your DC were left or right handed?

He's taking GCSE's next year and there's dark muttering about him having some special dispensation to use a laptop, as his writing is still practically illegible.

DS is the same, and I'm planning to ask if he can also get a dispensation, at least for his English exams. He's pretty bright in some subjects, but did take a little while to choose which hand to write with.

I'm classed as mixed handed, not ambidextrous. I do some things with one hand, and some with the other, but I can't do absolutely everything with both hands, although I do a lot, including writing. Truly ambidextrous people can do everything with both hands.

Both my kids did this untill they where about 4 It's normal.

My DD was left handed by the age of 4 months, every child is different.

It is perfectly normal at that age. My dd was one of those who came into the world left handed and cannot do anything with her right at all, but her writing is still shit.

I was like this - I'm ambidextrous!
