Its Fathers day coming up, I've already done 10 of them and I've ran out of ideas, We have enough mugs, key rings and socks to last a life time. DH always loses out because I usually get him what the kids want to get him, which is Mugs, key rings and Socks,(and batman/superman pants!) and sometimes, if hes lucky, chocolate ( If I don't eat it first Blush ) Tips and advise please.
Just for reference he enjoys cycling and has an office job. I was going to do him a cycling hamper but not sure what to put in it as he has everything he would need and use???

A day out voucher - for lunch at his fav restaurant, for a cycling event, etc. Or a voucher for a sports massage/breakfast in bed. We do activities, not things. Or a food hamper!

DameSylvieKrin · 26/05/2019 20:41

Get a pack of plain postcards and a small photo album. Get the kids to list their 10 best memories, one on each postcard. Find a relevant photo for each.
For me, it’s nice if you can facilitate your kids expressing their feelings rather than focusing on stuff.

Onceuponacheesecake · 26/05/2019 20:41

I'm sure I'll get frowned upon for saying this but personally I think we buy far too much 'stuff'. Buy him something hobby related, that would be nice. No need for novelty bits. Personally we tend to do things rather than buy items Smile

Jimmy2345 · 26/05/2019 20:42

I’m making a cheese & biscuits hamper, along with some ales or a red wine.
He doesn’t want clothes or aftershave etc, not bothered about fancy accessories.

Singlenotsingle · 26/05/2019 20:43

What do you get the man who has everything? We just usually go out for the day somewhere. Beach? Zoo? London (Boat trip?, Natural science museum?)

Trebla · 26/05/2019 20:44

Does it have to be a present?
A low in, breakfast in bed, beautiful cards with the kids writing heartfelt messages and lunch out is enough surely. It's about celebrating him, not lining pockets of companies marketing at you.

Siameasy · 26/05/2019 20:47

I buy DH a Starbucks voucher. He finds it useful for commuting.

autumnleaves15 · 26/05/2019 20:51

Cycling - what about some fancy lights or some pannier bags if he needs them? A cycle tracker thing (not sure what they're called).

Work - a good quality work mug for tea/coffee? Or an emergency work hamper with tea or his beverage of choice, stress ball, a photo of the kids?

General - pay for a day out somewhere as a family and get the kids to draw him a voucher for it and present it to him?

You do realise that Father's Day is there for your DC to show they appreciate their Dad? Give them £5, send them to Poundland and let them get on with it. The same equally applies to Mothering Sunday. Once your DC hit 10, they are old enough to get on with it themselves and anything they do buy will be appreciated far more than a contrived hamper or Father's pamper say. If they fail to get something for £5, their father knows exactly what they think of them.

TeaAndChocolateBiscuits · 27/05/2019 21:56

Thanks everyone, I'm trying to stay away from personalised stuff, but there are some good ideas.

Got DH one of these. He’ll enjoy burning food in a small metal bin. I’ll enjoy not cooking. I’ll also enjoy how cheap it was. Wins all round Grin

Mammyloveswine · 27/05/2019 22:17

My husband is getting a bottle of single malt off the kids and he'll get a blow job/sex off me... he'll get a lie in too Grin

Annabk · 27/05/2019 22:20

Get the kids to bake him some cheese straws, shortbread or brownies. All easy and not too much mess.

stmartins60 · 27/05/2019 22:32

My husband's a keen cyclist and I bought him a small pack made out of recycled inner tubes which is ideal for a cafe stop as it hold money and other cards for ID etc.and fits in a cycling back pocket . It was £7 95 I think from a charity . If you're interested I will look up the e mail address .

TeaAndChocolateBiscuits · 27/05/2019 22:58

@mammy, if I gave dh a blow job, he'd think I'd done something wrong. Christmas and birthdays only 😆

@stmartin yes please, that would be fab

You could get him time instead of things. A one on one activity with each child, a movie or dinner/dessert? Or an hour at the arcade with one of the kids.

FuckMNDoubleStandards · 27/05/2019 23:18

A helmet for cycling? Maybe a food hamper with some of his favourite snacks that you can put together with the kids? Maybe even get the kids to hide his gifts and draw a map for him to find them?

HerRoyalNotness · 28/05/2019 00:04

I don’t know if they do this in UK or ship to Uk but a retroviewer with personalised reel of family photos went down well here

Bottle of whiskey?

Goodr sunglasses, àmazingly comfortable for sports goodr.co.uk/

WeedsAndMoss · 28/05/2019 10:06

DH wants bamboo type boxers as he struggles to find comfy pants and we got him these for Christmas and he's been rotating 4 pairs since.

HelloDoris · 28/05/2019 10:16

I got my husband some vouchers towards a velodrome afternoon once, was great fun for him, pretending he was a cyclist in the Olympics :)

GimmeBread · 28/05/2019 10:25

25 years of buying gifts for a man who genuinely doesn't want anything! But of course you can't give nothing so I try and find something I think he'll like but nope. Books stay out unopened for 6 months then they're eventually relegated to a shelf in his wardrobe, never to be seen again. Remaining unread, unopened and ignored.

Poor books.

FriarTuck · 28/05/2019 10:40

Get them to make fairy cakes and ice some soppy message on top. Everyone wins because they get to share them and you don't have unwanted crap around the house.

stmartins60 · 28/05/2019 10:41

TeaandChocolatebiscuits ,I bought the cafe wallet from Velo culture web site.but sorry don't know how to send you a link .

Thehop · 28/05/2019 10:48

My husband has an office job and is a cycling fan.

He got a Euro sport subscription one year

A framed cycling print from velo love another

In a similar position - thinking of this from Fairway Graphics in Normanton. Picture in the shape of a bike, using words related to him and your family :-)
