Cancer research wouldnt take my travel system.

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 24/05/2019 14:20

A Cosatto travel system was given to me by a friend. I asked her what she would like me to do with it when we have finished with it and she said give it to women's refuge or similar.

I called our local women's refuge, they said they would get back to me but they never did.
I went to cancer research (the only local charity shop big enough to be able to take it) and they said they aren't allowed to take mechanical things.

So I have a lovely cosatto pram, with a carry cot, seat, and car seat with base (I realise the charity shop and refuge wouldn't be able to take the car seat) and no where to take it.

Can anyone help me help someone who might need it??

If I put it on marketplace I don't want some greedy arsehole to take it and try and sell it.

I want to actually help someone.

Do you have a baby bank near you?

www.stripeystork.org.uk/babybanks/

Sparrowlegs248 · 24/05/2019 14:22

Sell it and donate the money?

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 24/05/2019 14:22

Charities aren't allowed to take it as they could be sued if it broke or wasn't safe.

You could sell it privately.

PenguinsRabbits · 24/05/2019 14:28

Sure Start or Home Start might be worth a try. Otherwise sell on ebay and donate money maybe.

LazyLemur · 24/05/2019 14:28

Another recommendation for a baby bank. If not, contact your local church and ask them to put you in touch with similar organisations. That's what we did. The lady who received our pram and bits was so grateful and had already lined up a soon to be mum for it.

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 24/05/2019 14:29

Yes!! That's so helpful thank you, I have a local baby bank called Pelican Parcels and I just messaged them.

Thank you!

Check out homeless links website and you might be able to find services for local homeless families in your area who can take it.

Beaubird83 · 24/05/2019 14:31

Charity shops round by me take travel systems and car seats all the time, I always see them out front! I wouldn’t personally get a car seat second hand unless it was off somebody I knew (and a close friend at that).
I second what pps are saying; sell it and donate the money instead!

PenguinWings · 24/05/2019 14:33

I took our pram to a mencap collection centre. They had loads in. I've bought pushchairs from barnardo's before.
I'd just try a different charity shop but don't try to donate anything that could be used as a car seat.

I have managed to donate my car seats to a refugee charity but it's been by getting the details of a person who needed it and taking it to their flat, so the charity wasn't officially involved. Which is a bit of a pain.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 24/05/2019 14:36

Do you still have your hv number? I found a home for my Phil & Teds this way. It wasn’t pretty & didn’t owe me anything but had loads of life in it (& 3 spare inner tubes). She had a lady who was having an unexpected baby. I received a lovely note from her thanking me about 3 years later (just after I’d had my 5th) saying that she’d used it for another baby & then passed it on to a friend who was using it.

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 24/05/2019 14:36

don't try to donate anything that could be used as a car seat.

You mean...... a car seat....?

Bernards that just warmed my cockles!

I will indeed try my HV if the baby bank doesn't work out.

(Does anyone else picture a bank where you get babies? "I want to withdraw 14 tots and 6 dummies please."

It was lovely! I made the fatal mistake of reading it while the hv was here still & cried (pp hormones).

Oddly I was given a double by a school mum when Dc5 was a couple of months old. I had planned to just use my wrap but it’s been a godsend so I’ll be finding a home for it come September when dc4 starts school (it’s useful for carrying the picnic on days out).

SnowdropFox · 24/05/2019 14:44

Speak to your health visitor, sometimes they have local people in need.

whistl · 24/05/2019 14:46

NCT sale?

PenguinsRabbits · 24/05/2019 15:00

I also picture a bank full of babies though was wondering if you can also deposit babies there for a day or two Grin Don't have any though but would have been useful. Wink

stucknoue · 24/05/2019 15:08

Many years ago I donated mine (pushchair and carry cot) to women's aid, I included the cosytoes, blankets, rain cover etc plus a bundle of princesses bedding (2 duvet covers, curtains etc) they asked for my name and address for their records but I didn't think any more as I moved. A year later I had a redirected letter from a lady who had received the bedding and another from the recipient of the push chair thanking me and explaining that they had each fled domestic violence which just what they could carry. I'm so pleased they didn't go to someone who sells them on or looking for a bargain.

Purpleartichoke · 24/05/2019 15:14

Our charity shops won’t take baby equipment of any kind. Cribs, strollers, travel cots, etc. all risk either being under a recall that is unnoticed or having damage that is unnoticed.

I’ve had good luck giving away/selling at low prices things online. And when I say good luck, I mean an obviously pregnant woman is the person who inevitably comes to pick up the item. Perhaps they were scammers looking to resell, but I feel like my items went to people who needed them and most importantly they were now out of my house.

JustSomebodie · 24/05/2019 15:28

You shouldn't buy second hand car seats - that's why they won't take them.

ChicCroissant · 24/05/2019 15:41

I bet they'd take it if you took the car seat part of it off - that will be the problem. Most places won't handle second-hand car seats.

PenguinWings · 24/05/2019 15:44

YesSmile. I do mean the car seat. They'll take the rest. I thought that you might be thinking that the car seat part would make a lovely baby seat on the pushchair and they wouldn't have to use it as a car seat.
But obvs not

Thertruthisoutwhere · 24/05/2019 16:26

There was a lady on here a while ago who had used a donated one in hospital whilst her DC were in neonatal so might be an idea?

All the charity shops round my way take them but second a sure start centre

AndOutComeTheBoobs · 24/05/2019 16:55

I never offered them the car seat.

Because I'm not stupid.
