AIBU about the National Trust 'stunt scone'?

AIBU or is it NT policy in all their cafes to display an enormous and fantastic looking scone on top of the counter, but when you order a scone they get you one from the back which is a pathetic and distinctly inferior specimen of about half the size (and then add insult to injury by charging 75p for a teaspoon of jam)?

Or is it just at Nostell Priory that they always do this?

I've been to Brodsworth Hall Marmite27 but it was about 10 years ago so I can't recall the calibre of the cakes (assume they were ok but not exceptional or I would remember!)

I had a gluten free cream tea at Corfe Castle. They actually had it advertised on a board outside, normally I ignore the cafe as the gf options are too depressing

The NT may be all well and good, but but far and away the best scones I have ever had were in the snack bar of the Robinson Library at Newcastle University. I lived on them for about 5 years.

DuggeesWoggle Yes! It’s Dinefwr I was talking about. My DH says exactly the same about passing the tray through the window.

Oh what's the cafe like at St Michael's Mount? I'm going there next week and would like to know what my scone options are in advance 😆

I think I had a cream tea at St Michael's Mount (I definitely had something!)

No complaints, perfectly nice, whatever it was Grin
