To ask everyone's go to Friday night dinner ?!

DH works away lots. I work full time demanding job. I'm exhausted, carry the load whilst he's away. I'm currently attempting to dance round my kitchen being cheerful - indulging in wine - whilst making a massaman curry. The boys are at footie. Didn't fancy take away. What's everyone's lazy weekend dinners ?! (ps live overseas so it's acceptable to be on the wine ...)

Hiphopopotamous beat me to the lovely bit of squirrel...

Isitmybathtimeyet · 24/05/2019 12:25

We live in an area with very cheap seafood so my favourite Friday meal is oysters followed by half a lobster with mayonnaise.

I realise this is annoyingly specific to our circumstances though!

We sometimes treat ourselves to a Cook pie, sometimes have takeaway and sometimes cook something nice if we have the time. Kids get pizza or fish and chips.

notyourmummy · 24/05/2019 12:31

Pasta/spaghetti, prawns/seafood, olive oil and chopped chillies. With a salad. I leave the chillies out of the children's version and everyone loves it. Minimal effort too.

OkMaybeNot · 24/05/2019 12:34

Friday night is film night in our house! The kids have a choice of whatever 'treat' food they want. Usually pick pizza. Sometimes I'll do homemade, but usually it's a few frozen ones and wedges, all eaten on the floor in front of the TV with pillows and blankets. Loads cheaper than a takeaway.

fitflopqueen · 24/05/2019 12:37

I have found some salmon in the freezer, Salad and rice. Usually cook something on Fridays that we can have again over weekend. All changes when the kids grow up and not about for meals

weegiemum · 24/05/2019 12:40

Both the teenagers who still live at home are out tonight (last day of exams for ds so not sure when we'll see him!). So no cooking for them - I usually do pasta of a sort on a Friday with garlic bread. Will probably make the pasta sauce anyway in case they're hungry when they get in, it freezes well.

Dh and I are having one dish salmon. Layer of baby potatoes in a wee bit of olive oil, layer of asparagus and long-stem broccoli, salmon fillets on top (with sticky teriyaki sauce tonight but sometimes tomato sauce, sometimes just lemon and dill). All baked in the oven, no effort at all.

BreconBeBuggered · 24/05/2019 12:41

I see the squirrel's been done so I'll offer up a crumble. Crimble crumble.

Or enchiladas.

Madhairday · 24/05/2019 12:43

My neighbour always comes round and tries to eat my apple crumble.

Madhairday · 24/05/2019 12:44

Ah Brecon cross post Grin

Landfilly · 24/05/2019 12:45

Jackie's crumble of course Grin

V jealous of the lobster

DD is out all night at band and Guides so we don't do special fud on a Friday night

SpeckofStardust · 24/05/2019 12:45

Take away, different week to week depending on what we feel like. We work all week and it’s our treat start to the weekend, no cooking or washing up. What’s the problem with a weekly take away bibbitybobbityhat?

Today we’ll skip a take away and just have something very light at dinner time because we’re having a bbq lunch at work (from previous experience there’ll be loads of food so it’ll be filling) and an early finish as a thank you from the bosses and a nice start to the holiday weekend.

Standstilling · 24/05/2019 12:46

weegie one dish salmon sounds lovely - fresh or froz salmon? And do you cover it to bake?

Madhairday · 24/05/2019 12:47

I like to hang dried fish in the cupboard under the stairs. That's tasty that is.

Dollywilde · 24/05/2019 12:48

Payday today so doing an overdue big shop after work. As someone who’s usually religious about meal planning this is a mega treat for me as I’m just going to pick up whatever I fancy when I go Grin

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/05/2019 12:56

Intrigued by how people afford it. Decent Chinese or Indian takeaway for 4 of us is over £50.00. So it's more like a once every month or two treat for us.

LadyCassandra · 24/05/2019 12:57

DH works late so we always have homemade pizza (he’s not a pizza fan). I have a thermomix so not as difficult as it sounds, and all kids (10, 6 & 10 months love it)

MysweetAudrina · 24/05/2019 12:58

Badger and rice mostly.

StarringRole · 24/05/2019 12:58

Crimble crumble

CaptainButtock · 24/05/2019 13:30

Yep squirrel for me too.

I’m veggie tho so I get the Linda McCartney ones.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/05/2019 13:48

Steak on a stone and salad.

Easy to prep but feels a bit special as a start to the weekend.

I just throw the salad together, trim the steak and cut into small slices.

If i feel up to it I might make béarnaise sauce but generally buy it ready made and just warm it.

Stone goes into the oven at the highest temp for an hour.

Then all round the table and everyone cooks their steak how they like it on the stone.

weegiemum · 24/05/2019 17:49

Standstilling I usually cover it. The one time I didn't the ends of the broccoli went crispy - dh likes it but I didn't!

Standstilling · 25/05/2019 16:56

Thanks Weegie, I’ll give it a try.
