To be slightly concerned for DH's health as our dog keeps sniffing him?

DH is outwardly healthy. Late-forties, fit and strong, no known current health issues. No recent changes, except that for the last month or so, our dog keeps sniffing/pawing one specific area of his abdomen.

DH first pointed this out to me - I think he thinks it's odd but unconcerning. A few times each day (and that's just when I'm there) she stands up against him and really sniffs this spot, a few inches to the left of his navel, occasionally gently pawing at it. There is nothing to be seen on the skin.

Last night when he took a shower I watched dog retrieve the t-shirt he'd just taken off, put it on the floor and sniff/paw the part of it that'd been on the bit of skin she sniffs. It made me feel uneasy, to be honest - she's never even taken a smelly gym sock from the laundry basket before now, and it seems strange to me that she's taking an interest in such a seemingly boring patch of skin.

So, am I being really stupid giving this any headspace whatsoever? Genuine question, and would actually be quite happy to be told yes, as I can worry a bit obsessively sometimes.

Bupa sounds the way to go while you wait for GP, and a good suggestion of PP to find a well man clinic. I hope the results are fine OP.

LightDrizzle My cancer sniffing hero is a crossbreed. His Dad was a Staffie and his Mum was a Whippet crossed with a Collie (small lurcher).

He is weird to look at but a very sensitive soul indeed. I went on shift and they were about to euthanase him as the owner didn't want him. The needle was about to go in and I asked them to not do it and I would ask the owner if I could take him and find a home. Ahem...twelve years later we still haven't managed to find him a suitable home!

He is actually the best dog in the world Grin and would sell his soul for Dreamies.

Has he seen a doctor yet?

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 29/05/2019 11:06

I hope he gets on ok and gets some answers. Dogs really are very clever.

Skittlesss · 29/05/2019 11:10

Dogs are amazing full stop. Mine cling to me when my mental health isn’t very well.

allhopeisgone · 04/06/2019 14:26

I keep thinking about this thread & wondering if Mr winter is ok. Any update OP?

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 04/06/2019 14:34

allhope me too. I think the OP said he didn't have an appointment for ages, so maybe she'll update then?

Ahsureimgrand · 04/06/2019 22:40

Gosh, i hope OP hubby ok but how interesting about the dog behaviour

Bluemascara4 · 07/06/2019 22:08

@thethirdmrsdewinter

Is your DH ok? Has he seen a doctor yet?

allhopeisgone · 20/06/2019 17:42

@thethirdmrsdewinter is there any news?

usernameuser · 29/06/2019 13:24

@thethirdmrsdewinter, did your DH go to the GP on the 20th?
Is the dog still sniffing him?

AhoyDelBoy · 01/07/2019 11:10

.

Weenurse · 01/07/2019 11:17

Any news?

DianaT1969 · 10/07/2019 16:51

I thought about this thread today as a friend scheduled an early mammogram due to her dog recently pawing at her there.
Any news OP? If he had tests, I really hope it was good news.

FoxSquadKitten · 10/07/2019 17:08

Oh Diana hope your friend is ok and if it is anything that they've caught it early. I really think we shouldn't underestimate the power of dogs.
Hope your DH is ok too, @thethirdmrsdewinter

notapizzaeater · 10/07/2019 17:19

My dog def knows DH isn't well, he won't leave his side when he's home (and he's a ladies dog, normally attached to me)

Mydogmylife · 10/07/2019 18:13

Any news? Dogs are so good at this type of thing, hope it's been nothing too serious if indeed anything at all

JollyGiraffe · 15/08/2019 19:23

Is there any update on this OP? How are your DH/dog?

Sexnotgender · 15/08/2019 19:35

And my cats were always the first to know I was pregnant

I took a pregnancy test because of my cat! She was right.

Sexnotgender · 15/08/2019 19:37

It makes you wonder how many lives could have been saved because of early detection if they had had a dog, doesn't it?

A friend of my husband was saved by their dog. He’d been out running and had a massive heart attack as he got in. Dog alerted the mans wife saving vital time.

jacksparrowsbigbadboat · 15/08/2019 20:18

Ghh

jacksparrowsbigbadboat · 15/08/2019 20:19

Sorry- didn’t mean to post that. Youngsters and keyboards.

icecreamsundae32 · 15/08/2019 20:24

Hope everything is ok!

OpenYourEyes · 15/08/2019 20:36

Hope your DH is OK.

My son had diabetes and our dog didn't smell a thing.

cacklingmags · 15/08/2019 20:42

Trust your dog, get DH to go to GP.
