To be shocked with attitude? Anything (lawful) I can do?

Long story short. My neighbour has installed ultrasound cat repellent.

I can hear a damn thing and it fires three times in a row when someone or something passes it by. I wanted to talk to them, in a polite way explain that it is killing me when I have a migraine (I have a migraine with auditory aura. One of the toughest existing migraines. That means I suffer much more, because of the frequency it operates on.). I can hear it when I am inside with a slightly open window as well as every time I am getting in/outside

Instead of polite conversation, he has risen his voice (straight away) and said that he would switch it off if I would clean the "fucking shit" (quotation) every time from his garden because he can smell it and it irritates him (I don't own any animals). Simultaneously his dog was peeing on my trees. I said that he's being a hypocrite and should clean my plants then. "prove that my dog did it"

I am literally shocked... Should I just forget it or can I try to do something?

Not sure but I would contact environmental health in the first instance as the noise is preventing your quiet enjoyment of your property. They may issue a cease and desist letter. This appears to have stopped the constant bonfires from one of my neighbours which was unexpected so they do work sometimes! I am not sure what other legal remedies you have but that's where I would start.

Billballbaggins · 23/05/2019 16:48

www.gov.uk/report-noise-pollution-to-council Contact your council. Explain you have approached him to be met with hostility and you’re feeling worried etc hopefully they will send him a letter then escalate if necessary

TheTrollFairy · 23/05/2019 16:52

Like others have said, approach environmental health. People have the right to enjoy their property which means things like constant bonfires/noise etc are not allowed. I think you’ll be more justified too that there is no periods of rest as I guess it isn’t turned off any time.
The officer will probably come out to listen to the noise before they can do anything though

Grasspigeons · 23/05/2019 16:57

This is a really difficult situation. Does he believe you own the cat? There are other cat repellants, one being that he marks his own territory! Lion dung etc. Is there another frequency it can play at that might not be so triggering.
I can see the environmental health person coming out and declaring there is no noise. Im the only person in my family who can hear cat scarers. They give me a tight sick feeling which is unpleasant enough without the migraine

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 23/05/2019 16:58

Well, doesn't he sound a peach?

Council/environmental health are your point of contact here. The police won't get involved.

Fawnsett · 23/05/2019 17:02

He definitely knows I don't own animals.

I hate these things, I can hear the so called silent ones, I wish they would ban their sale. I would contact environmental health, alternatively go round to his house periodically and poke him in the eye and see if he gets annoyed

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/05/2019 17:07

Wow, what a shithead he is.

Hope you can get some resolution!

I hate the sonic repellers, whatever they're for - the ones for moles can be extremely distressing to pets like guineapigs too - they're just too far-reaching to be fair.

goose1964 · 23/05/2019 17:08

Lion shit is supposed to be good. I think humans can't smell it but cats can't. Perhaps suggest this

Pinkvoid · 23/05/2019 17:11

He’s such an arse and that must be irritating his dog too... Most people buy cat repellent stuff or a sprinkler system, not something that will upset everyone around them.

As PP’s have said, contact environmental health.

Tubastraprash · 23/05/2019 17:14

These are so invasive. I hope you can get it resolved. There's one nearby our street that gets set off when people walk along the pavement on the other side of the road (wide road with wide path so quite far!). It's ridiculous. People who live there must hear it all day.

Another house near us has one and its batteries ran out a while back. The owners are older so probably couldn't hear it when it did work so they'll have no idea it's stopped. That amuses me.

floribunda18 · 23/05/2019 17:23

I find them horrible as well, I can hear them. Plus those mosquito things outside shops that only teenagers are supposed to be able to hear.

bitmynailbrokemytooth · 23/05/2019 17:30

I also hate bloody wind chimes. The neighbours used to have them at the end of their garden which was fine for them but was close to our bedroom window, being hung quite high up in a tree.

Orangeballon · 23/05/2019 17:31

In Scotland you require only one person to witness a dog fouling, that is sufficient, no further witness required. £100 fine by dog warden

Cryalot2 · 23/05/2019 17:39

At times like this I am so thankful to live with no immediate neighbours
I used to live for many year live in small estate with walls like cardboard .
Contact environmental health and keep a log . No way should you have to tolerate this.

SoupDragon · 23/05/2019 17:40

So, anyone can claim someone's dog had fouled somewhere public and not have to prove it? That doesn't sound right.

Fawnsett · 23/05/2019 17:46

Orangeballon, that is a good law though. I am not that sensitive, but it was such hypocrisy.. We live in a very nice neighborhood, mostly all have kids and chosen this place because of the good school. This guy is single, lives with his brother, no other family. Well, today's accident explains why I guess.. My husband said he will talk to him, he doesn't 'want war.. I don't think that's a good idea anyway. I guess I will try to call the council tomorrow to talk about it. It's situated in such a way that every passing car is triggering it.
