20 month old complaining

So, my DD keeps complaint that her arms and legs hurt. Nothing major, she just rubs them and says ow. It's been going on for a couple of weeks now.

No other complaints/marks/bruises. But throughout the day she complains about 1-3 times. Wibu to take her to the doctors considering there's nothing else and she complains for a second, and then gets on with things? I've read that growing pains aren't real so I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Yes, GP is a good idea.

MRex · 23/05/2019 12:45

Try stretches, warmth and massage. If those don't ease her pains at all then see a GP.

janetforpresident · 23/05/2019 12:46

Yes GP definitely. but I am sure my DS had growing pains so I think they are a real thing. However I didn't know they were common in toddler. He was much older (7)

SupaNintendoChalmers · 23/05/2019 12:46

Growing pains are definitely real. I can still remember as clear as day how painful they were as a child! Especially in my shins!
Always better to be safe than sorry though, a trip to the GP is never a bad idea.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/05/2019 12:48

Yes definitely, I would ensure she has an appointment tomorrow to rule out anything serious.

Kanga83 · 23/05/2019 12:49

Growing pains are definitely real! We had the fear of god put into us that our child's pains and headaches and tummy aches were sinister. Rapid referral to hospital- growing pains and hyper mobility. It flares every now and then, generally achey towards the end of day and night, trampolining and climbing makes it much worse.

TraumaBond · 23/05/2019 13:07

Okay, thank you for your responses. I'll get her booked in for tomorrow.

I remember growing pains and both my kids get phases of them.

No harm in getting it checked in case it isn't.

Beaubird83 · 23/05/2019 13:17

Growing pains are definitely real. My youngest is turning 2 next week and she occasionally stops where she is, and rubs her hips or her knees and says they’re owwey.
We massage them lightly and she will tell us when they are better. When our eldest used to complain of pain I was marching her to the doctors every week where my doc would say to just keep an eye on her, nothing obviously wrong. She’s fine now! She occasionally gets foot pain and it is honestly when her feet go up a size, so she associates it with growing pains.
Think if you need the reassurance, pop docs or chemist. Otherwise just see how she goes.

TraumaBond · 23/05/2019 13:22

Thank you. Everyone I've asked has said their children haven't/don't get them. So, I was starting to worry, especially when I Googled and cancer, etc. starts showing up! I know it probably is just normal aches and pains, but I will get her checked over just to be sure.

Yup, growing pains are absolutely real. Had them myself.

I read somewhere years ago that growing pains are caused by the bones growing faster than the muscles. This causes the tendons to pull on the periosteum (membrane that surrounds and protects the bone; tendons are connected to it), causing pain.

hiya, I know this is an old thread but I’m just wondering if you ever got any answers with regards to this OP? My toddler has been doing the same
