To beg for help with DS's eating

Sorry shamlessly posting for traffic. DS has just turned one, hes energetic and fun and meal times are a nightmare. He looks at all foods except cheese or toast and throws them on the floor, even at 7/8 months he never had the urge to put things to his mouth. He will eat really quite well spoon fed, ideally for him the thicker purees/mashed veg but the HV said we need to stop that (i dont disagree.....she gave no advice on how though). I desperately need some ideas on how to get him feeding himself more foods.

He gets no sweet food other than fruit which actually occasionally he will feed himself.

Everyone said BLW would mean he eats everything.....we left it months of him throwinh thimgs on the floor before thinking if we show him they taste good by spoon feeding it would help and that's only got us as far as toast and cheese

I get so envious of others being able to make one dinner they all sit and eat. PLEASE hit me with ideas to improve this situation

Ffs he's only one, what's the hurry. My son wouldn't feed himself until he was 2.
He's 36 now and eats plenty!!!Grin

We also did the whole putting a piece of sandwich on a spoon to feed him 😂 for dinners we did mashed food, and then moved on to picky bits to begin with and try (aka fish fingers , steamed veg etc) then filled him up with mashed food after he'd had a little go at trying the other foods , don't stress! He's still really young and they're ready in their own time aha x

Don’t worry about it. My son is now 16 months and eating well, but he’s pretty texture sensitive . We did baby led in the sense that we fed him what he’d eat. I got a bit stressed about it and decided to relax after similar advice in here. He basically would gag and choke on anything with skin. He still doesn’t really like meat. Upside of purée type things is that he can feed himself using a spoon now, as well as handle finger food. Sometimes I used to tell myself he was just getting fine motor skill practice in..

Oh and we don’t do one dinner, because frankly I’d be really bored eating what he does and he wouldn’t eat what do. Tonight we had burgers (a no), with corn on the cob (a no) and coleslaw (also no).

Thank you all, I've decided to just go with the flow. One meal a day finger food he can do whatever with and brekkie and dinner however he wants to eat so he doesnt go too hungry
