Asking for a friend Smile

A process that has been working well for the past few years in my work place has been recently challenged by a team (who have to provide the information to our team). Without this information , the process doesn’t work as such there is a hard dependency on the info.
My colleague spoke to our team manager to advise why this proposal was not beneficial for the company , highlighting the extra costs this could have.
Manager initially seemed to take this all on board. A meeting was then had with opposing team and colleague . This resulted in my colleague’s view being shut down. Manager issues a mail advising that the process needs to be changed and that colleague needs to get with others in the team to think of a way to “make the process suit everyone involved ” .

Colleague replied to manager’s mail, articulating that they had continually gave their steer and advice but felt that their view was not being heard and therefore was struggling to see what much else they can add.

Since then manager has fed back to colleague that they need to be contributing as a team member and not doing so is unprofessional. WIBU?

Sorry , just realised that when I previewed the post I deleted the challenge from the other team.
The other team want to stop providing the information as it would make their job easier .
The information required doesn’t take a lot of time to populate but does require someone as a qualified member of their team to enter the info for them to cast their expert eye over it.

As your colleague has put it in writing they now need to play along and do some careful upwards management. The aim is to make the manager to realise they are accountable and responsible for a decision that will impact on the business reputation/costs.

Your colleague needs to establish the process and how long it takes the other team to produce this information. Ask your manager for access to the raw data and X additional resource to take on this role or what tasks can stop being done to allow your team to take on this role. Do this in writing indicating happy to do this but need XYZ.

Also as a senior qualified person needs to check the final output then your manager has to take over this role and sign off(actually get a signature each time) to say it is accurate. They therefore need to be up-skilled by the other team to do this.😀

Your colleague has said what they think. Sometimes the only way forwards is to watch the car crash unfold and then help clean up the mess at the end (and if the company is anything like the one I work for then they won’t learn so you’ll rinse and repeat)
