Reusable Pads

Inde96 · 21/05/2019 21:51

I know I'm not being unreasonable to want to switch from one use sanitary towels to reusable due to them being better for the environment and more cost effective, etc. However, I feel really unreasonable to not have much information about them. I have done some research via google but can anyone give me some advice in terms of best brands to use/how do you know which is best for your type of flow?

TIA Smile

Fanny Paddams on Etsy is very good. Lots of helpful advice and great pads that wash really well.

Facebook sellers or I make my own as I like sewing and they're nice and quick to make. Ngozi Sews are the ones I always use first. Check her out. X

My favourite are soft jersey topped ones (like a soft T-shirt) so I save clothes for the top then use fleece for the back and buy a very absorbent fabric called zorb as the core.

I have some I've bought from Etsy that are topped with harder cotton (not the stretchy T-shirt sort) and they're nowhere near as comfy.

Bamboo Velour is lovely too.

Thank you for your reply. I'll have a look now! 🙂

Go on Facebook and search cloth pads, they are amazing!

madamim · 21/05/2019 22:23

Hi I've got some from Honour your Flow. website full of information x

Wasywasydoodah · 21/05/2019 22:24

Whatever you do, don’t get fleece topped ones. I got some by accident and they chafe terribly.

CrazyCatNerd · 21/05/2019 22:52

Ooh all mine are fleece topped and I love them!

Ariela · 21/05/2019 22:53

I agree avoid fleece topped they're very warm and uncomfortable.
My favourite are these plain black organic cotton by Imse Vimse:

I just bought some bamboo ones from amazon. They are amazing. Soooo much more absorbent and far less bulky/noisy too, super easy to wash. My are black inside so don’t have any staining issues. Just bung in the wash.

Hey why not try thesmartclothcompany.co.uk.

She's a UK based seller who does affordable bundles for women starting their cloth pad journey. She made me some really nice customs when I messaged her. She's passionate and informative.

It can be really expensive starting off but he bundles give you all you need.

JOS133 · 22/05/2019 00:45

You'll never know what you like until you try. You can't go wrong with 100% cotton as this is what most of our undies are made from

EveHen · 22/05/2019 06:45

I dont use them (I have a mooncup) but have a look at thenappylady website. Obviously for reusable nappies but she also has sanitary stuff, and she's really helpful!

Another tip - check the dimensions before you buy.

I bought a first batch for DD who recently started but I must have accidentally stumbled on giant ones which amazed/terrified both of us. They're so big I think I will just use them to wash windows or something.

Second time around I used a website that compared materials, size etc.. to find something a bit more young-person friendly and it turned out well. Will post the link if I can still find it. It allowed you to select exact size or to specify long, heavy, night-time etc...

Trebla · 22/05/2019 07:07

I love mine. Use a cup and hannah pads. No fuss, no mess, no waste. Don't like the period knickers due to microfibers.

MrsElizabethShelby · 22/05/2019 07:09

Ooh, I have just taken a look at thesmartclothcompany.co.uk what a great find!

I mostly use a mooncup but I like a pad for the lighter flow on days 4/5 and IV been looking to replace with reusable once my last pack of disposables runs out.

Amfeelingfline · 22/05/2019 07:20

@Ariela I have those and agree those are really good 😁

AnalyseThis · 22/05/2019 07:25

This was the comparison site we used: www.earthwisegirlsuk.co.uk/reusable-sanitary-towels-c-1.html

HariboLectar · 22/05/2019 07:34

Thanks for posting this OP, I was going to ask for advice on reusable pads. I've just had my Mirena removed so having periods for the first time in years.

Can anyone recommend a narrower pad please?

Or does anyone have any experience of Precious Stars pads? They came up on my FB the other day.

Thanks.

Inde96 · 22/05/2019 20:33

Thanks everyone for your advice and links! I've made the decision to switch from disposables to reusable but I think it'll have to be a gradual move
