Aibu to ask how to clean this

I inherited this lovely bottle garden bottle, but it is all cloudy inside. So far I have tried vinegar, toilet cleaner, washing up liquid and scrubbing.

Can anyone suggest any other way I can get the glass clear? I promise to post before and after pictures if that’s your thing (I love a good before and after cleaning pic).

Is it limescale?
Try Coca Cola. Put it in, leave it overnight and rinse.

What a gorgeous bottle! There are loads of videos on YouTube about cleaning old glass bottles. Take a look at some of them.

MyProperTea · 21/05/2019 21:47

I assume it is limescale, but I could be wrong. I am determined it will not beat me, will buy coke tomorrow.

Viakal

chesterfuckingdraws · 21/05/2019 21:50

Have you tried uncooked rice with warm soapy water? The rice helps gently scrub the glass

If it was limes ale vinegar would have sorted it.

How about trying sterilising tablets - like Miltons or those to clean dentures? These are supposed to be good for cleaning vases.

Wondering also if the glass is just knackered - like some drinking glasses that just go cloudy.

*if it was limescale

Denture cleaning tablets? There might be a better name for them, I can’t think!

fc301 · 21/05/2019 23:17

Viakal. Then drop in an old plug chain (or similar) and swish it about in there.
If that doesn't clear it I would use appliance descaler sachets.

DontCallMeShitley · 22/05/2019 00:51

It might be limescale, it can sometimes take a while to remove with vinegar, I tend to soak things for a few days.

I have removed the cloudiness from drinking glasses by soaking with a very strong vinegar solution for about a week.

Kilroy is good for limescale, again it might need more than one try and a good soak. I wouldn't use anything abrasive on it, or hard due to scratches.

However, if it has had soil in it may well be scratched so not much chance of making it clear again.

Lemon juice, baking soda and hot water. Let it sit for a while then give a gentle scrub.

Floralnomad · 22/05/2019 01:20

Stick a dishwasher tablet in it with hot water and leave to soak .

Brandnewshit · 22/05/2019 01:29

Bicarb and vinegar. Give it a shake and leave it

Turpy · 22/05/2019 10:13

I don't think you will get it clean. I can polish out limescale from vases etc using a drill and a polishing compounds S lots and lots of time but I couldn't do anything with that bottle.

I don't think any of the suggestions made so far will work but would be delighted for you if I'm proved wrong 😊

MyProperTea · 27/05/2019 20:12

So I tried most/all of your suggestions. And there was some improvement but sadly every time it dried the scratches came back. So I made a water garden :). It will be clearer when the water settles in a few days.

Thank you millions for all your help and suggestions.

What a lovely idea!

Sabato · 27/05/2019 21:21

You can get those magic copper balls from Lakeland and they will sort it out in a second. Otherwise I would try something like baking soda and vinegar?

Sabato · 27/05/2019 21:21

Oh sorry, didn’t RTFT! looks lovely!
