To think I have not broken GDPR?!

I accidentally sent an email to the wrong, let's call her, Maureen.

The incorrect Maureen emailed back in a flurry, saying "Was this meant for me?! It's not grea GDPR" Confused

She wasn't joking. She isn't the type to 'joke'.

AIBU to think this is ridiculous?

The email was a document about... hold onto your seats... How to work the coffee machine!

Pretty sure you’re fineConfused

cleanisbliss · 21/05/2019 18:38

Sex I imagine she's thinking that if I sent that so carelessly, what else could I be sending on a whim to anyone?

Which is utterly untrue since I'm usually very careful. It was quite a casual text with a document about coffee machines

Can you reply with a breezy ‘have a coffee Maureen’ finished with a wink and imagine the Rage

AppleKatie · 21/05/2019 18:38

🤣 reply, no it wasn’t this is an example of human error. I suppose if you consider this to be unsolicited marketing about the coffee machine it might fall under GDPR. Don’t worry i’ll report to the information commission I expect they aren’t terribly busy this week anyway.

wholelyunimpressed · 21/05/2019 18:40

What does 'grea' mean in this context? I know it's probably a typo but can't work out what.

Snuffalo · 21/05/2019 18:40

If Maureen worked for me I’d make her take her GDPR training again.

SentientPotato · 21/05/2019 18:40

I wouldn't worry. I emailed a client an instruction letter today, and sent him one for Mr Smith's matter when he is Mr Jones. It was a mistake, human error, not a breach of anything!

Sexnotgender · 21/05/2019 18:40

Gosh, today is coffee machine instructions, tomorrow who knows Grin perhaps a GDPR refresher course before you accidentally email any more beverage related instructions?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/05/2019 18:41

So, you didn't send her anyone's personal details?

Cos GDPR isn't about minor errors, it's about giving a 3rd party someone elses perosnal data, name, address, phone number, date of birth, shoe sizee etc etc etc...

Basically tell her to pis off and get herself edumacted about the realities of GDPR and the ICO!

Redglitter · 21/05/2019 18:42

What does 'grea' mean in this context

Great 🙄

cleanisbliss · 21/05/2019 18:43

I had a customer in the charity shop where I volunteer rant at me yesterday about "that data protection and GDP (sic) thing" when I asked for her name and address to process a refund.

The law does of course allow companies to collect personal data for refunds as long as we don't then go on and use it to mailshot people (which we don't), and store it properly, which we do. But everyone's an expert and there seems to be a general feeling that no companies are allowed to ask for any personal data ever, whatever the reason.

Cariadne · 21/05/2019 18:46

I imagine she's thinking that if I sent that so carelessly, what else could I be sending on a whim to anyone?

I expect this is accurate, in which case she needs to learn the rule ‘no harm no foul’!

BlueJava · 21/05/2019 18:46

She's talking out of her behind and trying to scare you. Unless the coffee machine instructions contain the personal details of people Hmm then you're fine. Yes you should be careful, but you know that and it was an honest and very minor mistake.

Tingface · 21/05/2019 18:49

I’m so sorry Maureen.
I realised my mistake too latte.

wholelyunimpressed · 21/05/2019 18:51

Oh, I see; well "great GDPR" isn't an actual concept. You're either compliant with it or you're not and your coffee email has nothing to do with it.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/05/2019 18:51

It's not great GDPR

Why are you wasting time considering the opinion of someone who thinks to GDPR is a verb.

Just ignore and downgrade your estimate of her IQ.

CCC1 · 21/05/2019 18:53

@Tingface 😂

Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2019 19:04

tingface Grin

DownStreet · 21/05/2019 19:04

GDPR is the new health and safety, in that most people talk utter bollocks about it.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 21/05/2019 19:08

I would completely ignore her - about everything at all and if she asks why you are ignoring her I would reply
'sorry I'm not sure who this is I may have deleted your details under the right to be forgotten'

GabsAlot · 21/05/2019 19:09

I think someone needs to explain to maureen what GDPR means

Bakingberry · 21/05/2019 19:10

As far as I can see there was no breach of personal data. This person needs to get an understanding of what they are talking about if they want to send such passive aggressive emails.

And like others have said, everyone thinks they are an expert. It will get to the point where no one will even let you store their name and number in your phone lol

mouldyhousemouldylife · 21/05/2019 19:11

What else would grea mean other than great? 😂

kbPOW · 21/05/2019 19:12

OMG OP, now you've broken GDPR by talking about Maureen on Mumsnet. Just call 111 and log it with the police Grin
