I had one, was picked up while I was pregnant and experienced some bleeding.
Had it removed at a hospital appointment, took about half an hour, was mildly uncomfortable but ok. It was sent for testing but was nothing sinister.

I had some it was picked up in my smear test. Went to outpatients appointment and they removed them, didn't feel anything so from that respect it was fine. Sent them off and there was nothing wrong

same as PPs

I had one removed recently. Was a bit uncomfortable as it was growing from inside the cervix, so took a bit of cervix dilation to remove.

Consultant assured me that 999 out of 1000 polyps are benign and a nuisance that are removed as they can cause issues with bleeding and not for any other sinister reasons. Once removed, it got sent for biopsy as a matter of routine, all fine. I also got sent for an ultrasound to check my womb lining as I’m menopausal and he wanted to make sure my bleeding issues were indeed the polyp and nothing else was going on. Again, all fine.

I had one last year when pregnant which caused some bleeding. Took five minutes to get rid of and no pain. They send them away for testing but doctor said it's so rare for them to be sinister that he has never had one that was. No worse than a smear test just a couple of minutes longer. I am queasy with blood/medical procedures so I was really nervous but if I had to have it done again tomorrow it wouldn't bother me at all.

My mum had this recently. I went to hospital with her when they were removed as she didn’t want to drive. They got sent off for a biopsy and came back totally benign.

She has had to go back every six months for a couple of years for them to check and then should be automatically discharged from the hosp dept - I think she’s got one more appointment. All been fine since the initial removal (which iirc took about half an hour, I know she was fine afterwards- she took some paracetamol before going in as advised. She said it was a bit uncomfortable but def nothing extreme)

Good luck Op - these types of things are scary but also very common, so please try not to get too stressed beforehand. Xx

Fingers crossed @Sr69 but I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I had one picked up in January and the GP said it was small and not to worry - so no referral as it wasn't causing problems.
In April I had a routine smear and the nurse said it was rather large and next time a smear is due then she doubts they'll be able to get access so I'd need referring
I have to go to the colposcopy clinic now (due to abnormal smear) so hopefully they'll deal with it for me. :(

stucknoue · 21/05/2019 22:14

I have a few, they get snipped in about 10 seconds, the forms take far longer to fill in. The first time I had a local anaesthetic but subsequently I haven't bothered, it doesn't hurt for more than a moment. They do send them off in case they are sinister but mine have all been benign.
