How much should I charge??

Thinking of doing this in my spare time, used to work at a laundrett years back so I guess I have 'professional' experience..😬

Can you actually do this? Do people just hand over their clothes etc to a random stranger?
I just cant see it, how would it work?

(Yes I saw this suggested on another thread (they may have been taking the piss..) and thought it'd be a good idea! Grin)

When I was at college I did my sister's ironing for 75p per item. I got VERY good at ironing quickly.

Newadventure · 21/05/2019 17:35

Hmmmm not bad!

I wonder if 50p per clothing item and say, £1 for sheets/curtains would be a good starting point??

(Considering sticking an 'ad' on Sphock rn)

I've just handed my ironing over to a stranger for the first time, and feel ludicrously extravagant and slightly spendthrift - but it was brilliant!

I couldn't find anyone on gumtree, so went with the Yellow Pages after finding a couple of time wasters with websites on Google. Company does pick up in my area 3 days a week, and charges £1 per item, £2 per item of bed linen (no matter the size) and 50p per pillowcase.

They were slightly more expensive per item than the website time wasters, but tbh, it's worth it to me to have someone collect and drop off when they say they will - worth the £3 extra over all. And they did a beautiful job on everything - even the incredibly wrinkled bed set I'd meant to re-wash before sending.

Go for it, OP!

That's in the NW, by the way, and includes collection and return - but your prices sound OK for children's clothes, but on the cheap side for shirts/King size duvet covers. But have a Google and see what others charge - companies and independents-maybe you are in line for where you are.

My local launderette charges £1 per item. I know because I got fed up of ironing at least 15 shool shirts each week so I looked into it. (Decided I couldn't afford that so I've taught the DC to do their own ironing - it's worked a treat. But no good for you trying to earn a few bob though. )

I pay £10 per hour

Newadventure · 21/05/2019 17:52

I was thinking of charging per hour hollow but then I wouldn't know how fast I'd be expected to iron or if I should take my time

How tired are you getting of your current ironer?? You don't live in the NE by anychance?? Grin

Oooh well I wonder if I should charge £1 per item and then offer to pick it up and drop back off??

£1 per item is pretty pricey. I'm in the midlands and pay 50p/item. She also collects (in a big bag) and brings them all back on hangers.

It's brilliant and I wouldn't be without my lovely ironed.

Ironed!? Ironer

Donnasaurus · 21/05/2019 21:28

My ironing lady charges £10 a basket
