To wonder why car manufacturers make 7 seaters without boot space?!

Trying to find a new car is proving difficult.

We have 4DCs and, all the 7 seaters look great...until it comes to boot space with all seats up. I also question how safe it is having the seats so close to the back?

Is there a good 7 seater with a decent-ish boot?

We have a peugeot 5008 old style. If you only put one of the back row seats up there is a bit of boot space but its not that big.

I know 3 families with 4 kids and they all have a mini van type thing.

We have the same problem. We bought a Citroen C8 when DC4 was born. It is OK for the weekly food shop but I don't know what we will do if we can afford a holiday this year.

You’d be looking at a crew cab. Transit, vivaro or transporter. Mahoosive and not cheap or easy to park.

Assuming you only need 6 seats, it look like in a Prius+ 7-seater might be able to have only one rear seat folded, giving additional boot space. Don't know if that helps. (Don't know if other cars also do this.)

Skoda Kodiaq. 7 seats and decent boot space.

bridgetreilly · 21/05/2019 13:40

It's because most families either need 7 seats or boot space, but not both at the same time. If you have two kids, you need the boot space when you're going on holiday, or the extra seats to take them and their friends out for the day. It's flexible, but it's not designed for the large family, because there just aren't very many people who actually need that.

Bujinkhal · 21/05/2019 13:42

They look ugly as hell but the Fiat Multipla (6 seats) has a reasonable boot. We have a Touran though, totally love that car. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Backwoodsgirl · 21/05/2019 13:42

I don’t know if you can get them in the UK but a Chevrolet Suburban, and a Ford Expedition Max can both seat 8-9 and have a full size boot (big enough for 3 big dogs)

Raver84 · 21/05/2019 13:43

I've 4 age 9 7 5 and 2. Xc90. Can fit in all of us plus dogs, bikes, scooters. It's huge. I've sat in the boot seats and easily fit adults in there.

outsho · 21/05/2019 13:44

Same situation here. We have the Volvo XC90. We only need one of the seats in the back so second one is usually folded down and that’s our boot space. We invested in a roof rack for camping gear.

jackparlabane · 21/05/2019 13:51

You can fit a lot under feet and on laps. We have a Ford Galaxy which has an adequate boot but loads of space if one seat is folded down. Decent headroom so can get more in the boot than you think, and put cases on top of kids as needed.

Kiwiinkits · 21/05/2019 13:54

Roof box?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 21/05/2019 13:58

We have 5 plus 2 dogs & have an Smax (next to no boot space) & a T6 (9 seat) with amazing boot space.

AnotherEmma · 21/05/2019 14:01

Get a roof box for holidays.
You don't need a big boot most of the time unless you have a dog or need to transport bulky essentials like pushchairs (and even then you could use a compact pushchair).
And there must be several 7 seaters that allow you to fold one seat down in the back.

Spaghettio · 21/05/2019 14:08

We have a similar issue and have settled on the Volvo XC90. It has enough boot space with all the seats up for a pushchair and a couple of bags.

We recently hired a Kia Carnival in Australia and it was AMAZING! Heaps of space with the seats and a massive boot. We decided there and then that we needed to get one but sadly they don't make them the same in the UK.

dreichuplands · 21/05/2019 14:09

My Ford Explorer has an okay boot with all the seats up and the Ford Expedition has a lot.
I don't think either are available in the UK though? Not sure they would fit in an average UK parking space though.

mummymeister · 21/05/2019 14:10

we often have to take two cars to fit everyone and luggage in. currently have a Seat alhambra and ford galaxy both of which have good seating but no boot space. Also have a VW T5 long wheelbase which has lots of roof space for roof racks.

LadyofMisrule · 21/05/2019 14:13

We have a Peugeot 807, so 7 seats and sliding electric doors. We've got four children, so take out one seat and stick on a roof box if we want to go camping. Sadly, they have stopped making them now, and the replacement is nowhere near as good. I'm constantly on the look out for a suitable replacement, but haven't seen anything yet.

ElizaPancakes · 21/05/2019 14:13

We’ve had both a multipla and zafira which we’re fine for boot space. What are you looking at?

Also - if the above aren’t suitable then you’re looking at a minibus.

mummymeister · 21/05/2019 14:15

Bear in mind though a minibus is a complete and total pain to park. You could also invest in a trailer for luggage should you be going on holiday. it would be cheaper to buy a trailer and hitch it to the car for the couple of times a year that you need it than to spend lots more on a van just to cover those 2 weeks out of 52.

LostInTheColonies · 21/05/2019 14:16

Honda Edix? 6 seater, decent-ish boot & 4wd!

allinmyhead12 · 21/05/2019 14:18

we have a citreon grand c4 picasso. as others we put three of the kids in the middle and one in the back with the luggage when we go abroad. We are also looking into the roof box but just to give a bit more room, not because we need to.

mamaoffourdc · 21/05/2019 14:19

In NZ we had a Kia Carnival which was amazing!! But they don't make them in the uk! Sad

Monarexfluff · 21/05/2019 14:22

We have a Toyota previa, seats all kids comfortably and has a massive boot

NKFell · 21/05/2019 14:22

The Ford Tourneo custom is great, but it is a van! Easy to park though- not too wide.

The S-Max is good if you don't mind one seat down.
