to find my work colleague so annoying?!

My work colleague is fairly new but she's sat right opposite me and doesn't stop taking and laughing...at nothing!! She is so loud and laughs at everything including things that aren't even funny. It drives the rest of the office mad too but they don't have to sit opposite her. She's really lovely and helpful but sometimes I just want to do my work in peace and I can feel myself getting annoyed and have to try real hard to just smile and act polite. Honestly its tiring sometimes. Anyone else feel like this? Am I just a miserable cow?

My colleague doesn't spray her perfume in the microwave. Should have proof read.

Tableclothing · 21/05/2019 10:10

All you can do is put ear phones in.

NoSauce · 21/05/2019 10:27

Curious as to why work colleague is not the right description.

Yanbu OP. Can a manager speak to her? Or get some earplugs if not.

DarkDarkNight · 21/05/2019 10:33

I would stop smiling and acting politely while you are trying to work. Just try to zone her out and hopefully she will get the message.

You can be friendly and polite at break time.

MissDollyMix · 21/05/2019 10:36

Bring her in a packet of extra chewy toffees? Should keep her quiet for a while Grin

The best answer is noise cancelling headphones. You don't have to listen to music, but these will dampen the worst of it with white noise. If your manager or colleagues ask why, just say that the noise in the office is making it hard to concentrate.

I feel your pain. A woman started in our office a few months ago and while she is truly lovely, she laughs ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Her office is down a long corridor and we can all hear her honking like a goose.

You can ask her a totally banal question about her weekend or compliment her clothes and she will shriek with laughter. Ugh.

cuppycakey · 21/05/2019 10:41

If you intend to speak to her, I would cover your arse by sending a confirmatory email to your manager re them instructing you to have this conversation with colleague.

I do agree it is very annoying. There is a woman like this in a Four in a Bed series that I had to stop watching (sacrilege) because I just couldn't bear it. Laughing for no fucking reason. Angry Angry Angry

Noise cancelling headphones/other headphones might make her stop or you won't be able to hear her.

WeeDangerousSpike ah ok thanks so for that Grin Every day is indeed a school day! it's the most ridiculous pedantic load of shit I have read on mn, and that's saying something

I will always regret not going for it when I had the opportunity 30 years ago,

It was my dream house - and still is. I get a pang every time I see it knowing that if I hadn't been "sensible" it would be mine now.

Writersblock2 · 21/05/2019 12:07

I’m wondering if you’re in my office, OP - I’ve got one of these colleagues!

Magenta82 · 21/05/2019 12:30

It is better if you say something rather than your manager, if your manager does it then it makes it sound like people have complained and are talking about her behind her back. If you ask, it is just a colleague asking for a bit of quiet.

Janedoughnut · 21/05/2019 13:40

What happens if you ignore her by pretending you're engrossed in your work?
