To ask for help with my bum pain

So when I had my first baby I suffered with constipation from the iron tablets I had to take and as a result I ended up with piles.

They come and go and normally I find germaloid cream is better than anusol at helping calm them down. Witch hazel is amazing and if necessary a few lavender baths work wonders too.

However, on this occasion it seems a bit different. The pain is worse, none of the above is helping and it seems that the pain is actually in one particular spot on the outside edge of the anus.

Anyone got any ideas to help me??

Without asking for a close up picture, probably best to see your doctor. Internet strangers probably not experts in mystery bum pain!

I’ve got a docs appointment booked for Friday but am struggling to sit still for long so was hoping for some tips to get me through.

Could be a cyst or perianal abscess, I'd see your practice nurse, it can be a real shit (pardon the pun).

SlipperyLizard · 20/05/2019 22:47

I agree - you need to see your GP. Took me ages to see my GP when my piles got super painful, but she prescribed a cream that actually sorted them out for a few months. And it wasn’t anywhere near as embarrassing as I thought.

stillworkingitout · 20/05/2019 22:49

It might be thrombosed - which is very very painful. Eye watering, in fact. Usually they feel like harder more solid piles and very painful to touch. They do go after a few days to a week, essentially it’s a bruise inside a pile and the blood has to be reabsorbed. Best seeing a gp though to be sure

DingDongDenny · 20/05/2019 22:51

I've had a thrombosed pile, on holiday no less. I had to go to the local doctors and have it excised with a scalpel - most painful thing ever.

However, if you can catch it early enough you should be okay

Amanduh · 20/05/2019 22:52

Doctor, they can give you high strength stuff. Until then -
Germaloids suppositories - the triple action ones. Warm bath. Ice cubes. Baby wipes kept in the fridge.

Peachesandcream14 · 20/05/2019 22:56

I had a thrombosed one on holiday too, thankfully it burst by itself so I didn't have the embarrassment of hoing to a doctor about it. But I couldn't do anything for the whole week, even moving from lying on my side was too painful. Probably best to go to the doctors and see what they can do if nothing you have is working though as it could need attention.

Yours sound worse than mine, so sympathy to you. I find a fairly hot bath with a load of salt in it helps me

justasking111 · 20/05/2019 23:04

If you have any frozen veg. sprouts best or a some peas wrap them up in cling film and put them up to the site. Repeat as necessary until you see the gp.

BlackeyedGruesome · 20/05/2019 23:07

Maybe a little cut at the edge of the anus if not the things listed above.

Beauty12 · 20/05/2019 23:09

Sorry to hear that. Drop a few drops of tea tree oil in a jug of water and wash that area with it.

chocolatebrazilnut · 20/05/2019 23:17

It might be a fissure (causes sharp pain when you go- described as like being cut with shards of glass). Your doctor will be able to spot it if it is. If it is that, the best thing to do in the meantime is to keep your stools as soft as possible. You could try Fybogel and/or Lactulose if you need something to soften them.

bluebell34567 · 20/05/2019 23:20

if you have savlon, put some on it.

Bobmcbob · 20/05/2019 23:21

Are you using the suppositories of just cream? I find suppositories are much more effective. But you might need something stronger like. Protosedyl which helped when I had a thrombosed pile.

Maremaremare · 20/05/2019 23:22

This is quite comprehensive eMedicine

TrumpetTrouser · 22/05/2019 20:08

@Bobmcbob thank you so much!! I went to boots, spent £20 on different remedies to get me through to Friday and I’m pretty sure it’s the suppositories which have helped so much that the pain has pretty much gone.
