To not celebrate my birthday with a party

It is a major birthday that ends in a zero. I will be celebrating with my DH and DCs by going for a little holiday, and will be having a nice dinner in a posh restaurant with family. Does everyone have a big party with friends? I have nice friends but I find the whole thing so anxiety provoking and stressful. Will I regret it if I don't?

Do what you want. It’s your day.

I personally think it is nice to do something with friends if you can to celebrate a 'big birthday' but doesn't necessarily have to be a party if that is not your thing

Aimily · 20/05/2019 21:43

If you're not a party person don't have one. Don't let what other people do dictate your choice or stress you out. It's your day.

Tbh I'd much rather go for a meal with close family and friends over a party everytime.

Totally up to you, sounds like you are doing plenty! Most of my mates didn't have 40th parties, TBH.

Do whatever you fancy. Your plans sound lovely.

Do whatever makes you happy 🙂

The thought of having a birthday party makes me feel sick with anxiety too. For my last big birthday my DH surprised me with a night away at a v posh local hotel, and the next evening we celebrated with a meal with family. What you've got planned sounds lovely!

I last had a party when I was 6 and I hated it, so would not even contemplate another. They certainly aren't compulsory.

When I turned 30 I went to New York with DH. For my 40th I went to Centre Parcs with DSis and her family and my mum and we stayed in one of the fancy lodges with a hot tub. Much more fun than a party (which I would have to organise myself).
