Would I be being an a**hole if I told the postman to f**koff?

Not sure if I’m just overreacting, but I’m starting to get angry, and quite a bit upset.

Every morning for the last week the postman has rung our (very loud) buzzer to let him into our block of flats. On 3 of these days, he didn’t even have any mail for us!!
I have an 8 week old baby that has his nap in the mornings. I have asked the postman previously to not ring ours, we are the only ones in the block with children, but he just shrugged.
Today was one of the days he rang, with no mail. I was feeding DS at the time and couldn’t get up to answer, yet he just kept buzzing over and over.
I managed to put baby down as I was gonna go and give him a mouthful, but he’d already gone.
Should I wait for him tomorrow morning and say something? I don’t want to sound mean, but he’s already been told and I don’t know what else to do!

What difference does that make?

She's annoyed when he rings the buzzer and has no mail for her yet lets him in so if she answers then refuses if there's no mail for her then he'll get the message it's not worth bothering her.

I'm assuming she's ok with answering if there is post for her.

Bettyspants · 20/05/2019 20:33

He's ringing your buzzer when no mail for you, ok in my book if its to take in someone's package. NOT to use you as a door opener , to ignore you despite being aware you have a baby is incredibly rude and unprofessional. I would ring the sorting office high light you have asked direct, follow up in writting via email plus put a note next to your buzzer 'post, please only use if mail for me, baby sleeping! Thank you' I would try and keep it very polite to avoid any issues with your post in the future....

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/05/2019 20:42

When I lived in a flat I had this in the summer holidays (teacher). We actually had a “services” button which worked until midday, then after that the postie, who was always really late, would need to buzz. I eventually switched my buzzer off, but that was also quite annoying, because some weeks there would be no post for days. I don’t think the postie will care about a note or photo of the baby, tbh, he or she just wants to deliver the mail, so thinking of alternatives like a communal letterbox might be better.

Wannabeyorkshirelass · 20/05/2019 20:43

Don't complain - you'll never get post again.

Disconnect your buzzer or at worst, ignore it for as long as it takes for him to stop bothering to buzz yours.

AdoraBell · 20/05/2019 20:45

Ring the head office as suggested up thread and if that doesn’t work ignore the buzzer. If it’s a letter for you they’ll leave one of their cards advising you that your mail is at their sorting office then collect it and casually say you go out most days.

LauraJade0308 · 20/05/2019 20:51

There is a trade button, so I’m not sure why he doesn’t use it, unless it’s broken maybe... We haven’t really been here that long. Will they really stop my post if I complain?! Well that’s not fair! I think I might try putting a piece of tape over the buzzer, I’m just thinking will he still press it because he knows it does actually work? Lol! It’s worth a try!

QuestionableMouse · 20/05/2019 20:56

For fuck's sake don't post your baby's info for the world to see.

It's not your problem to fix. I'd ask again, then complain.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 20/05/2019 21:00

I get the feeling that not letting a postman in unless he has mail specifically for you is going to be one of those MN things that is entirely normal here but completely alien to everyone else.

GabsAlot · 20/05/2019 21:00

Trade button obviously doesnt work get who manages the block to look at it

IDontDrinkTea · 20/05/2019 21:00

Could you go down during the day and test the trade buzzer? Because then if it’s not working you know to contact the building management. If it is working, then he’s being a cf and you should complain to head office

LillithsFamiliar · 20/05/2019 21:07

Why can't you put your buzzer on silent in the morning? Although tbh I don't know what you expect him to do when he does have mail for you. Are you hoping he gets a neighbour to let him in instead?

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/05/2019 21:12

they’ll leave one of their cards advising you that your mail is at their sorting office
Where will they leave it though?

Why don't the tenants/householders/landlords/management co sort out either 1. a letterbox in the main door or 2. an exterior mailbox. Am I missing something?

It's so not the postman's fault that there isn't an adequate way for people at the house to receive mail.

yermawyabas · 20/05/2019 21:13

Switch your buzzer off. I did this when I kept getting buzzed to take in parcels and let in the postman.

ilikemethewayiam · 20/05/2019 21:14

Our entry phone has a switch on it to turn off the buzzer. I thought this was standard?

LauraJade0308 · 20/05/2019 21:17

There’s no other settings on our buzzer, we did ask the housing officer to disconnect it but she refused. The 3 other people that live in our block are all single men with no kids and are always home. I mentioned this to the postman before and said there’s a higher chance of one of them answering.

Contact the managing agents for your building and ask them to deal with it. They either need to arrange trades access or move the post boxes!!

DarklyDreamingDexter · 20/05/2019 21:32

Ring or email your local delivery office and complain the the manager.

Notnownotneverever · 20/05/2019 21:39

What you say he buzzes do you have to let him in? If you stopped letting him in he might stop using your buzzer.
Could you take the phone buzzer off the hook around the time he arrives?
Or could you bare to just ignore the buzzer when he does it for a week or so? I’m sure he’d get in the habit of using a different one if he didn’t get yours answered.
Or how about talking to your neighbours about installing a letterbox in the door or an outside one then someone could bring the mail in each morning and leave it in a communal area. You could even volunteer if it was going to be more convenient than the postman buzzing everyday.

Notnownotneverever · 20/05/2019 21:40

When not what.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/05/2019 22:03

aye, yeah complain about the worker because the people own or who live in the block can't organise their arse to have a proper letterbox

LauraJade0308 · 20/05/2019 22:24

Why is it upto is as tenants to have to pay to have a letterbox installed? I don’t understand. Also, wouldn’t it then be a shared postbox? I don’t want my mail being free to take by the others. There isn’t anywhere for one anyway as the whole front lobby doors are glass. My bf is a glazier, but I’m not sure even he could tackle that! I wish I could just take the phone off the hook, but unfortunately it still buzzes

OP posts:
Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/05/2019 22:31

@laurajade then you can't have it both ways can you? If you want the postal worker to distribute it then someone has to let them in!

LauraJade0308 · 20/05/2019 22:36

My point is, why always me?! Shouldn’t he ring the buzzer of the people he has post for? Plus he’s been asked not to.

OP posts:
EmeraldShamrock · 20/05/2019 22:39

Can you mute the buzzer. Ywnbu to give him an earfull. Firstly put a note on the buzzer if you cannot mute it, contact his office, if he continuess to buzz you, throw a milkshake over him. Grin

EmeraldShamrock · 20/05/2019 22:43

It is always you, as you answer.
Give it one more time, let him know you won't be answering in future, he needs his office to make arrangements with the council. I am sure he hates doing it, if he gets in trouble at different addresses every morning.
