To ask if facial hair in young women always means pcos

My dd is 25 and grows facial hair on her chin, upper lip and sideburns. She also has hair on her stomach. I’ve advised her to go to the doctors but she’s so worried she may have pcos and won’t be able to have children. I’ve told her lots of women with pcos still have children. The facial hair is distressing for her and I feel the doctors is the only thing that may help.

I have a tash and some chin hair, I also have a hairy belly from pregnancy. I conceived twice no problem and don't have pcos.

I'm pretty hairy.

PCOS and three children, hairy and fertile it would seem.

TBH the doctor won't do much and diet can help. I am quite hairy and thought I had PCOS as I had some symptoms, except my periods were clock work. My first two dc were conceived first and one try each. The third took 6 months trying...so no need to worry for no reason.

Another hairy one here. Hairy arms, legs, face, tummy. Conceived each child first time. I think it’s just genetic. I use my lumea and it’s gone down considerably on my face.

I have a bit of face hair, I've had electrolysis to lessen it and pluck it sometimes. I don't have pcos to my knowledge and conceived about 5 months after coming off birth control. I have a friend who does have pcos diagnosis, she got pregnant about 3 months off birth control! Healthy pregnancy too no issues.

I have a light tache, which comes and goes as it pleases. My facial hair is very reactive to the amount I eat. If I don't eat enough, it grows more, it's more noticeable. I have a friend who grows a lot of dark ones on her chin.

Does she have any other symptoms? Or is it just the facial hair?

ShastaBeast · 20/05/2019 23:41

I have PCOS and all the usual symptoms. If she keeps her weight down it helps regulate the hormones better, although I don’t think it helps the hairiness. It does help conception, both mine conceived without trying while on a diet. In fact believing it would be a struggle led me to being lax with my pill - it was making me feel sick - DD is now nine and very unplanned when I was 26.

Oh and DD is getting hairy but I suspect it’s ethnicity sneaking in rather than hormones at age nine. So mustn’t be always PCOS.
