I’m getting a bit overwhelmed with the amount of ‘shit’ that we need to remember as a family. Additionally I’ve got chronic conditions and older DS has SN so I have appointments, activities, childminders, holiday clubs, annual leave etc.

I tried an old fashioned calendar but it’s not fit for purpose.

So - AIBU to ask you if there are any good family organiser apps you can recommend?

Soz for the boring thread Confused

I set up a family email and it's on everyone's phone so syncs with everyone's calendars.

TopiaryTartWithATractor · 20/05/2019 16:02

Hello! We had a normal on the wall calendar but recently upgraded to google calendar a few months ago, it works surprisingly well. We all have it on our phones and everyone can add to it, change it, colour code it etc.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 20/05/2019 16:03

Google calendar- everyone can add and you can colour code.
You can also set up different calendars, so can hide bits you don’t need. I’ve even started putting the meal plan on it

Offallycheap · 20/05/2019 16:03

I put reminders in Alexa.

I also still do a lot of standing at the bottom of the stairs shouting.

I've got a family calendar, with a column for each family member, that I update for the week ahead, every Saturday.

Perhaps I ought to get with the 21st century and use google calendar. . .

nauseous5000 · 20/05/2019 16:07

We use the TimeTree app. If it's not in timetree it isn't happening. We colour code our appointments so it's easy to see who has what going on when

scaryteacher · 20/05/2019 16:08

A cattle prod and a family calendar.

Pinkyponkcustard · 20/05/2019 16:09

Famcal app, haven’t bothered with a paper calendar this year

LonelyBones · 20/05/2019 16:11

Joint gmail e.g. [email protected] we use it for everything shared like car insurance emails, holiday, bookings and anything related to the kids which require an email like dr/dentist registration etc. Everything goes into the Google calender, i have one calender on my phone and everything is colour coded onto it, then the alert notifications pop up. No arguments when people arent aware of things happening, the joint calender is the proof! If its not in, its not happening!

AdoraBell · 20/05/2019 16:12

Google calendar would probably be the best thing.

Now that the DC are teens I use the you need it, you organise it method, but I’m not dealing with a child needing what your’s does.

BogstandardBelle · 20/05/2019 16:12

iCal here - We have a family calendar for all joint / family appointments and events- and any work events that impinge on family time. It syncs to my / DH and DS1 phones (DS2 is too young to need it). It works really well - as long as everything gets put in straight away.

It works only for dates / appointments / events though. Planning, projects etc - I’m experimenting with a bullet journal type thing but it’s not really working so far.

Tidypidy · 20/05/2019 16:13

I use a good old paper diary, I've tried digital calendars and they never seem to work for us. My children are younger so I'd have to input all their important dates myself whereas they can write their stuff in my diary themselves. At the weekend I double check what's happening in the week ahead then plan our meals around that. I keep polypockets on the fridge with upcoming appointments (DS1 has lots), school trips and club dates so they are always to hand. I go through them every week too and make sure anything that's not needed is taken out. In the past I've tried colour coding my diary with different colours for different people but it got too complicated!

Merryoldgoat · 20/05/2019 16:23

Thank you everyone - I think I’m gonna look at the suggested apps as it would be good if PIL had access too.

I’m a stationery-loving dinosaur at heart and love a nice paper diary but working out summer holiday cover was like some kind of krypton factor challenge.

Digital calendar. We merge 3 calendar at the moment, DH work, home and DH project (makes it easier for him to invoice customers). From September DD will get her own colour coding.

The calendar is on all devises, noone can say she/he isn't able to see what's going on.

For DD's school we have a wall calendar where she puts on which homework is due when so we can check that she is on top of her school work.
