These rich, white men want to criminalise women who have abortions, even in the case of rape or incest.

I am sickened by this, and almost as sickened by women (on here, but also on other SM) defending this decision.

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions and views but I don't think they should be able to force those on others.

But they are the legislators, it's their job to make laws, not keep their opinions to themselves.

Someone might think it's ok to have 5 pints and take the car out or any other number of things that the law forbids but they can't because of the law.

I presume the electorate knew what they were voting for when they elected these people in Alabama, they can't be surprised about the politicians' views.

OP, thank you!

Because the American South remains a bastion of political and religious conservatism? I am totally against this ban, but I can see why some people are as ardent in their anti-choice position as I am in mine.

Interestingly, even though the rights of the embryo are absolute and apparently top trump those of its host in every situation at every stage... embryos made for IVF are made in abundance and most are discarded, or frozen then discarded. Apparently an embryo is only sacred if there is a woman holding it who needs to be controlled.
