To feel a bit fed up with work situation?

Long story short, I am a qualified teacher of 15 years experience. I'm currently working as a full-time TA as can't get a job as a teacher due to budget/NQT influx at this time of year. I have no choice but to work to pay rent etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving my role but the pay (virtually minimum wage) means we probably won't be able to take the kids on holiday this year etc. Can't remember the last time I had a haircut-that's a luxury!

Meanwhile, ex husband has just spent £38k on a new car and £6.5k on a hot tub.

It just feels so unfair!

Sorry for the rant.

I feel your pain. So frustrating. Hope something comes along better for you xx

Bastard. I am sorry but you said "we" so I assume his children so he needs to man up and help them and their mother to have a great holiday. It seems he has plenty of money

We're divorced but he got 50:50 so he doesn't have to pay a thing towards the boys. When we first split I went without food in the weeks I didn't have the kids so I could feed and clothe them.

I now have a partner who works ft but also on a low wage.

Ex earns over £105k pa and has a 26 yo gf who demands Gucci shoes and weekly manicures but has never worked a day in her life!

He mocked me last week in front of the boys as we are going camping for a mini-break in the summer but of course he can take them to the most luxurious of apartments etc...

If he has them 50:50, is he paying half towards their clothes etc? If not he needs to start.
Mocking you is not on at all, regardless of whether it’s in front of the children. He sounds like a tosser.

Jimmers · 19/05/2019 20:50

And I bet the children love the camping’

The budget/nqts being employed instead of experienced problem is huge; can you apply for a tlr position? They tend to be given to experience. What about supply which is better paying than TA wage? After half term you will be in a very employable position as schools start panicking. Apply for everything.

What an awful man your ex is. I’m sure your children will enjoy camping just as much as whatever he does with them.

While I know you will have earned your place on MPS/UPS, would it be worth taking a step or two down it to secure teaching work? Or looking for maternity cover long term positions that are less than a year? You could also look at tutoring/exam marking/English as a foreign language tutoring online to boost your earnings. Summer camps are often desperate for qualified teachers and school staff - you could work the weeks/days you don’t have your boys. It might mean a bit more money towards a holiday for next year.

Also... forgot to say... on job search on tes do a search for everything within say a 30 mile radius, not just your key stage or subject, that way you get the bonus of everything being advertised, includimg those weird and wonderful hen's teeth jobs that come up once in a blue moon.
