Travelling at the start of fertility treatment.

I have started infertility treatment to trigger egg production and the last week of August my Ovitrelle dose is increased and I'll have to visit the clinic twice a week. They have to monitor how I react to the injections. I've already started the injections on a really low dose and they make me feel a little unwell.

I have planned to go on holiday to Cyprus for two weeks starting the 20th September. I need to keep the injections cool and I've got a plan for that. I spoke to the nurse about it an she says it should be fine if I can keep the injections cool.

I've not booked anything yet. Should I go away for two weeks and is it realistic?

I'm a bit confused by your dates - so you'll be in the stimming phase when you're on holiday? Since the stimming phase sometimes only last 10 days during which you have regular scans I don't see how you can go away? I had scans every other day plus regular blood tests and did end up with early stage OHSS which would have been dangerous if it was being monitored?
I personally wouldn't like to travel with injectable medication - they're realistically not going to be kept cool during travel to airport/waiting for flight/flight/transfers etc so they're going to get warm and that's not to mention if you get delayed? I'd find it a bit too stressful to do during what is already a stressful time? And then if you drop/break syringes you're not going to be get replacements easy or be able to be monitored if you feel unwell??

I'll be going up to the hospital Tuesday and Friday they will increase the dose, this starts on the 30th August. They think it will take a few months to produce an egg. They have started me on a low dose. I have annual leave booked for the 20th September. I'm not really sure of stages and how it all works.

I think I need to put the holiday on hold and maybe do a couple of city breaks.

Ive never heard of it taking a couple of months to produce an egg??? What kind of protocol are you on? The longest I've heard even really poor responders being on stims is about 3 weeks.....go with the city break options x

I'd also be concerned that your clinic hasn't given you all the information to prepare you if you are saying you are not sure of the process and how it works

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I had delayed puberty and my ovaries didn't fully develop until last year, I've never ovulated. The doctor explained it as my ovaries have been off for so long it might take a while to get them working. To be honest a lot of my diagnoses have been guess work and I think he said a few months as a rough estimate .

Eh? I was stimming for a couple of weeks, maybe a couple of days more (if I remember correctly) so I would check your timeline with the clinic. I wouldn’t go away anywhere that meant I couldn’t be regularly monitored during that time.

MoveOnTheCards · 19/05/2019 11:54

Ah. Cross-post. Still, I would check and think about city breaks!

cherryblossomgin · 19/05/2019 11:57

They did explain it but I didn't take it all in DH was there to get all the info for me because I still feel like it will never happen.

Thanks for all the advice, I'm going to forget the holiday until next year and will probably do a UK break not too far from the hospital.
