To think we can just reduce Everything and pay basic bills?

So I have been trying to think of saving money and living with as little bills as possible. Thankfully we are in the position of having no mortgage so as it stands so far we have:
Electricity
Insurances (home and life)
Childcare
Mobile phone x2
Car tax and insurances x2

We got rid of
Tv licence- we just stream movies etc
Refuse/waste fees- we compost and take to recycling centers ourselves.
Home phone and broadband (just use mobiles and tether up to the hotspot)
No water bills here (not uk)

Has anyone done similar and Is it sustainable?

Yes it’s sustainable as you just get used to it.
Can you reduce to one car as that will really help.

@Finfintytint oh I wish I could but dh needs his for work and so do I as we live rurally.

What ars you saving for and is this a time limited thing? If I had some target in mind it wouldn't be a problem, but I want to live and enjoy my life so wouldn't forego trips out, decent food etc if I don't have to. Also charity donations and thi gs that make me feel good such as perfume and haircuts. As I say if I was skint or had a goal to save for fine, as a permanent lifestyle? No.

I have also started not replacing electrical appliances to reduce the electric bill. Decided I can do without dishwasher, microwave, spare tv.
Also trying reduce the food shop cost.
I’m growing plenty of fruit and veg and we’ve gone veggie three nights a week as meat is so expensive.

I would query the phone/ tv situation. If you only ever stream tv/movies do you have a giant data allowance to cover what you need? If not then not having broadband may be a false economy.

Billsbills123 · 18/05/2019 14:02

@CloudRusting I have unlimited internet usage so it’s a no brainer for me, I never really seem to have a bill of more than €40
@WaxOnFeckOff saving for pensions, university for dc and an extension to the house and just generally trying stop giving my money unnecessarily to other companies to be honest

I'd double check, if you're planning to hook up to the WiFi spot off your phone, that that is included in your unlimited datq, if not you could get hit with hefty fees from the company

Billsbills123 · 18/05/2019 14:11

@StupidSlimyGit no hefty bills I have been doing that now for nearly a year (it was actually the first thing I changed) so I’m fairly happy that we can take care of our phone and internet needs on a max of €40 per month. Thankfully we live not too rural that we need broadband

Was only going to say that yuo only get one life and that there are no pockets in a shroud, but if it's with a purpose then yes, it's sustainable. But, I think you are saying it's more about not paying for things you don't need/want rather than not spending at all? Which is fair and none of us should be doing that really :)
