AIBU to regret having a mirena coil fitted one month on?

I was having very light periods and thought going on the Mirena coil rather than copper would mean less periods or even none.

I came on at usual time and rather than 2 or 3 days I've been having over a week of stop/start light to something out of a horror movie. And my nipples are killing me

Will this get better?

Apologies for two threads. Silly phone and webpage.

IME yes it will get better! First few months were a bit all over the place but then, once it all settled down, I haven't had a proper period for about 3 years!

Runkle · 18/05/2019 12:01

For me I did all settle down and I loved mine. Don't they say give any new contraception 3 months/3 cycles? Or is that just some rubbish I was told when bleeding constantly on the pill?

Runkle · 18/05/2019 12:01

Sorry to ask but is there any chance you could have been pregnant and what you're experiencing is a chemical?

MonaChopsis · 18/05/2019 12:05

Mine was hard to live with for about 8 weeks, now I never even think about it. One day of light spotting every 2-3 months, so light I don't even need to wear a liner. Give it a bit more time!!

Honeybooboo123 · 18/05/2019 12:07

Unlikely I'm pregnant as I did a test when fitted.
Ok, I will wait it out :(

Keep going. I get my 4th one fitted next year and I've not had a period in all that time, meaning my horrendous endometriosis has been kept at bay 100%.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 18/05/2019 13:40

I was like this the first 4 months- bleeding 14 days, off 3 days, bleeding 13 days and so on. I’m now 11 months in and haven’t bleed since the beginning of December.

PatchworkElmer · 18/05/2019 13:43

OP, are you me? Having exactly the same here. Hoping it improves soon!

GlamGiraffe · 18/05/2019 13:44

Myself and people I know have all experienced problems like this for the first 2 to 3 months then nothing at all. Id try very hard to wait it out. I had a copper one at one point and it was hell for a year and had to removed. The mirena is excellent long term. Some people take linger to settle than others IME.

Honeybooboo123 · 18/05/2019 15:44

It's just I had it fitted so I could get um...frisky.

My friskiness is being limited.

Altho, despite fears it hasn't impacted my libido!

It's pretty normal, the Mirena can be shit for the first few months.

Thank god its 5 years long or nobody would put up with those early days.

They say to expect "irregular bleeding" but don't explain that could mean flooding!

I had 4 months of crappiness, but then it just stopped and I haven't had a period since. It's changed my life, seriously.

roses2 · 18/05/2019 16:19

I had mine fitted 2.5 years ago. I still have monthly periods although they are very light amd last 3-4 days. I only need one panty liner per day.

Once every few months I'll get agonising pain and will need to lie down for a few hours. Pretty sure it's linked to the mirena.

It's nice not having to think about contraception. When it's due to be taken out I won't replace it as I'll be close to menopause then.

Lalala89 · 19/05/2019 01:10

Mine wasn't very good for the the first few months also. Got my second one in last year. LOVE IT. have barely had a period in 6years and my endo is mostly at bay!

SpoonBlender · 19/05/2019 01:31

I'd be a bit disappointed if my partner in friskiness was put off by periods! But I know some folks are funny about that.
