To think parents shouldn’t be doing kids’ homework?

This was mentioned on a thread about wifework - doing kids’ homework.

Surely kids should do their own homework? It’s set to reinforce their recent learning and give them practice using the new techniques they’ve learned. If the parents do it for them, they don’t learn as well.

Or AIBU?

For context - I have no DC, so maybe I just don’t understand. My parents never did my homework.

I now teach in my original home town. I teach 7 year olds and regularly have to tick and give stickers for homework where the spelling words have clearly been written by a 40 odd year old I went to school with. One mum (know her from our own school days) admitted to me that she does it with her left hand so I wouldn't recognise her handwriting from school!!! Seriously?!! WTF?!! Pointless waste of time and paper - and my time and effort. Pointless all round!

As a kid i only had spellings and reading to do at home. My own dc had a lot more homework so needed more help/me buying stuff

When my dd first started getting homework, I was trying to get her to sit down and do it and she said "but I just want to play". Sad
