Car accident claims

I was in an accident a few weeks ago very minor . Other driver accepted liability .

Anyway today I receive a call stating third party driver has been assessed for pain in neck . They are suggesting between £2 grand and £5 grand . The people who phoned said due to claim I was entitled to claim the same due to some legal reason. I told the guy on the phone neither my dc or myself suffered any physical injury and I get he was trying to lead me to say we had been in pain . When I was adamant we had no injuries seemed quite annoyed said he would close it down and then hung up.

Is this a scam ?

If it wasn’t it is no wonder insurance is so expensive when people are been encouraged to claim for none injuries

Was it Admiral Law?

Oysterbabe · 17/05/2019 16:06

Nonsense. The other guy can't claim if it was his fault.

BlackcurrantJamontoast · 17/05/2019 16:08

Nonsense. The other guy can't claim if it was his fault.

Of course he can, from his own insurance.

Oysterbabe · 17/05/2019 16:09

He can't claim injury if it was his fault I should have said.

HeddaGarbled · 17/05/2019 16:15

I suspect this call was from a claims company unconnected with your insurers, touting for trade. Well done for shutting them down. It’s like all those PPI claims companies we’re all being plagued by at the moment.

LIZS · 17/05/2019 16:27

Why would the other driver be classed as a third party, that would be a passenger or another car involved.

Groovee · 17/05/2019 16:35

My car was hit in the street by a van causing £1800 of damage. Witnesses saw it and got the reg number etc. But I keep getting calls saying I have money aside for my accident. But I was nowhere near my car and they keep phoning to tell me I was injured!

Ignore it as dh was injured in a big crash and the insurance company have sorted a claim and private physio and have been upfront about it all.

Starlight456 · 17/05/2019 16:35

No it wasn’t admiral law . Accident something . Seemed to have far more information than usual . Knew my reg no and liability had been accepted by other driver.

I may have 3rd party but wrong thought that was what other driver was called . He read a statement supposedly from other driver.

It was an opportunist - an ambulance chaser, effectively - trying to get you to claim (fraudulently) against insurance and pay them from the proceeds.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 17/05/2019 16:44

Just another ambulance chaser - claiming for injuries in a minor accident which haven't occurred just puts the premiums up for all drivers

Alsohuman · 17/05/2019 16:45

It’s a scam.

badlydrawnperson · 17/05/2019 17:03

No. The OP and their insurer are parties 1&2, everyone else is a third party.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2019 17:08

I've had loads of these calls about an accident I had last year. Apparently there is £3-£5K compensation waiting for me if I confirm my details, the big problem being the accident was my fault and the other party was a telegraph pole!

They refused to take me off their database as I wouldn't answer their questions. I asked politely several times but haven't heard from them since shouting 'take me off your data base, which part of it was a fucking telegraph pole don't you understand?'.

whenyouaredemoon · 17/05/2019 17:16

I had the beginnings of one of these calls about 5 times for an accident I wasn't even in! I'd just given one of the parties my details as a witness and neither me nor my car had been affected at all. In the end I went on a huge rant at one of them about holding false data about me and that seemed to do the trick - I assume I triggered some sort of GDPR panic.

MrsRyan15 · 17/05/2019 17:25

We had this recently when DH was in an accident.

Our insurance had't actually tracked the third party down (at the time we thought he was uninsured) yet a personal injury firm who vaguely claimed to be linked to our insurance were telling me that the third party had claimed they were injured and therefore it is likely that we suffered the same level of injury.

When I queried with them who they actually were and how they had managed to speak to the 3rd party when our insurance hadn't contacted them yet they became really shitty and patronising to me.

It's clearly all lies and encouraging people to claim when they are not injured. such a scam, I don't know how it is legal.

QuizzlyBear · 17/05/2019 17:43

We were hit by another car a couple of months ago and had an identical call a few weeks later. They knew every detail so I assumed they were affiliated with our insurance company.

I did have a stiff neck and shooting pains down my shoulder as a result (I wouldn't have followed it up myself, I don't go to the drs unless something's fallen off) so I said they could follow it up and claim. There's been a fair bit of paperwork and an 'independent' medical assessment, but they tell me I'm likely to get about £1,600 if the insurers don't contest it.

Honestly if I'd known it wasn't my insurance company I might not have gone ahead but it's been such a massive PITA (not just actual pain but no car for weeks and having to buy a new banger while we were saving for something nicer) that I could do with actually getting something out of it all!

NauseousMum · 17/05/2019 17:58

Google the number. I bet it's the ambulance chasers.

Di11y · 17/05/2019 18:03

my dh was in quite a serious crash 3 years ago. game my number as he didnt have a phone for a bit. still getting calls saying was I involved in an accident? take relish saying no ì wasn't. insurance claim still ongoing Hmm

Andonandonan · 17/05/2019 18:14

I had a call like this from an accident we had a month or so ago. Telling me there was money set aside etc etc etc.

She was so hard to get proper info out of eg name of company, tried to convince me she was from my insurance company.

Oysterbabe · 17/05/2019 18:18

The other driver involved and their insurer are referred to as the third party and third party insurer. That's the industry norm.

Jammysod · 17/05/2019 18:26

Someone will have passed your details on (maybe your insurer or the vehicle repairer) & they're just on a fishing expedition.

As the other driver is at fault he can't claim for any injury....his own insurer won't cover this either.

redwoodmazza · 17/05/2019 18:30

This is what happens these days. Somehow details of your accident are known and you get hounded to make a claim for personal injury. Bloody annoying. No wonder our insurances are so high.

Starlight456 · 17/05/2019 18:41

Thank you everyone. I was leaning towards a scam but my own insurance company asked multiple times if we had any injuries.
