To think Nestle shouldn't be doing this

At a time when responsible manufacturers are trying to cut down on packaging, Nestle come up with this...

Well Nestlé don't have a great track record at being responsible. YANBU though. The only small saving grace is it looks like the packaging is mostly paper rather than single use plastic. I bet the spoon is though.

gamerwidow · 17/05/2019 12:07

Yes it’s irresponsible but all single portion breakfast are if you think in terms of packaging.
I’ve stopped buying the porridge pots you add water to for this reason.

FissionChips · 17/05/2019 12:12

People will keep the bowl and reuse it surely ?

DonkeyHohtay · 17/05/2019 12:15

YABVVVVU to use "nestle" and "responsible" in the same sentence. they are the least ethical company out there.

Boycott them. Just stop buying their products. Own brand Shreddies are every bit as good and a fraction of the price.

UnicornBrexit · 17/05/2019 12:15

Cereal breakfast bowls with milk and spoons have been a thing for years. Check any chiller cabinet at any station or news agents. Intended for commuters

WoogleCone · 17/05/2019 12:17

FissionChips I think the kind of person who buys these things isn't the kind of person to think of reusing the bowl!
If you're of the reusing/reducing mind, you eat before you leave the house!

DonkeyHohtay · 17/05/2019 12:19

People aren't going to reuse the bowl. They are going to grab a pack to eat on the train, then ditch the whole lot in the bin.

This^.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/05/2019 12:21

Wow. Why not buy a pot - there are loads in the ships - where it is a compartment for the cereal and one for the milk/yogurt? What a terrible waste. Bloody handy but still a bloody waste.

DonkeyHohtay · 17/05/2019 12:28

www.conveniencestore.co.uk/products/nestle-breakfast-to-go-pots-launch-in-the-uk/570088.article

Says these pots are going to cost £1.99. Seems expensive.

Reastie · 17/05/2019 12:38

There have been new products very similar to this in the past that haven’t lasted. Most new food products fail and I think this will be an example of that.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/05/2019 12:39

Totally sticks up two fingers at efforts to reduce single use plastics, or in this case tetrapaks and what is effectively a coffee cup. And yes, £1.99 is insanely expensive for what it is.

Are they testing how ridiculous a 'more money than sense' type product they can get away with as an example of people's stupidity and lack of forethought?

If someone wants to take cereal to eat on the way to/at work, they could probably get a suitable two part pot, and buy enough cereal and milk to last all week, probably more for that price.

profumoaffair · 17/05/2019 12:39

What an abomination. They have no shame

ScrimshawTheSecond · 17/05/2019 12:41

I think Nestle are a satirical company made up to try and push the question of how much evil can a body get away with before people stop buying kitkats.

Bluthbanana · 17/05/2019 12:57

Fuck me, £1.99 for a bowl of Shreddies!? What's wrong with taking a wee flask of milk and a tub of Shreddies from home?

SanFranBear · 17/05/2019 13:02

I've boycotted Nestle for over 20 years as they are absolutely shameless when it comes to pursuing profit over people/ethics/basic moral decency!

So I agree with Donkey - this is not a company that consider anything other than their bottom line and are as far from responsible as it is possible to be!

FissionChips · 17/05/2019 13:03

Well, I’m shocked that people wouldn’t reuse the bowl. I bought a children’s breakfast set like that about 2 years ago, the bowl has been used many times and is still going strong. When it becomes unusable for food then I’ll use it for something else (plant pot, paint pot etc).

TheInebriati · 17/05/2019 13:04

What Scrimshaw and SanFranBear said.

MadSweeney · 17/05/2019 13:06

I recall being utterly fascinated to find something like this in a 7-11 in the USA waaaay back in the early 90's so it's nothing new.

Hopefully it would be reused, but I reuse pot noodle pots in the greenhouse so would look at it as a pot.

flirtygirl · 17/05/2019 13:08

Just boycott them. I've been doing so for a while.

DonkeyHohtay · 17/05/2019 13:09

Bit Fission, this sort of product isn't designed for using at home. It's for grabbing on your way to work to eat on the train, or at your desk, or when camping. Situations where you're not going to have the time or facilities to wash up a bowl and keep it for later.

I can't see people buying these single use bowls to use for a regular breakfast at home for £2 when a whole box of cereal and pint of milk costs not much more.

Imstickingwiththisone · 17/05/2019 13:10

It's ridiculous I agree, but isn't it the same as buying a sandwich for lunch? Microwave meal for tea?

Businesses will always try to market things that will sell, consumers will always buy things that are convenient for them. That's why we're in this mess.

UnicornBrexit · 17/05/2019 13:12

I’m shocked that people wouldn’t reuse the bowl

It's designed to be grab and go for commuters. If commuters had time to be weighing out a portion of cereal into a tupperware box, decanting a splosh of milk into a leak proof container, there would be no market for grab and go.

There is always the assumption that there is storage at work without food thiefs. if everyone did it in our office , we'd need three fridges and an industrial size fitted kitchen.

FissionChips · 17/05/2019 13:15

I think my local shop might sell them, I might go and see how durable they are.

I agree they’re environmentally terrible, I just assumed most people would reuse something like that (if its durable, as the bowl I bought is).

Lovemusic33 · 17/05/2019 13:37

Who’s going to pay £1.99 for a few shreddies and a small amount of uht milk? When I first saw them I thought “these could be good for camping or eating on the train” but for that price it’s not worth it and the amount of packaging is crazy. If I need to eat breakfast on the move I will have a banana which has 0 packaging.
