I’ve got mild bacterial conjunctivitis. My eye is red pussy and swollen. Pharmacist has given me Chloramphenicol drops. My question is I have a big do on Saturday night... how much can I realistically expect it to have cleared? What timing 🙄

Tea is also good as it draws out the infection. Cotton pads soaked in that or cooled boiled water (so it's still warm) is very soothing. Hope it clears soon,I got this loads as a kid but wont share my horror stories!

Cheers all. Not looking much better this morning but I’m going to attack it full throttle today - bicarb and water is my weapon of choice.

Get antibiotics from the doctor.

Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic.

I don't know how the pharmacist is concluding that the conjunctivitis is bacterial. I had conjunctivitis a few years ago, for which the GP prescribed first betametasone (guessing it was allergic) then chloramphenicol (guessing it was bacterial). The betametasone made it worse and the chloramphenicol did nothing, as the conjunctivitis was viral (which the great majority of cases are).

If it's bacterial, cloramphenicol drops will have reduced it to invisibility by Saturday.

This sounds a bit silly but it honestly works incredibly. Boil some water and put tea bags in it (maybe 4 or 5 for a normal mug) so it’s super strong and then let it cool enough to use. It’s a natural antibacterial and feels so good on it. Do it as many times a day as you can and it will disappear very quickly.

The puss normally signifies bacterial so the drop should help, how often are you using them?

I went through a stage of recurrent conjunctivitis a few years back after initially getting it from eyelash tinting.

I was advised to dip cotton wool pads in cold milk and rest over the eyes. This helped a lot for me. I would probably go for chamomile tea though now as it’s very soothing. I bath my DD in it when she has sore bits when she is teething and it really helps.
