To find SATs joke not very funny?

A primary school teacher played a prank on the whole of year 6 just after their SATs had finished by telling them they had another exam the next day. They actually assembled the kids and "explained" why they had not told them about it before! Then the joke was revealed and the kids had a post-SATs treat.

I think this is a bit mean and not very funny in what could have been a stressful week for some children. AIBU?

I think OFSTED should do surprise visits during SATS.

DS1 is now 18 but when he did year 6 SATS all the school TAs acted as 'readers' (prompters - 'you might want to look at this answer again') so there were 6 adult helpers for a cohort of 12 - including DC who were also sitting the 11+. Scandalous.

Interesting use of 'should' btw. So children need to suck it up because this is preparation for adult life. Because ultimately their stress doesn't count, even if objectively life-limiting or even life-threatening because they should be able to cope?

But ... adults are stress-ridden snowflakes who may melt and have no resilience to stresses of the workplace (eg OFSTED visits) and so need special dispensation?

Kneel - I think that NT people lack empathy and are over sensitive with regard to their own feelings. They also want to 'fit in' and are likely to consider the feelings of those in power but disregard the feelings of the relatively powerless and structurally vulnerable. Maybe mindfulness would help?

My ASD daughter had a much worse joke played on her class in year 6, and they kept it going for longer. And they wondered why her behaviour nose dived.

For NT kids it should have been fine. For those with ASD or sever anxiety you would hope someone would take them aside and "let them in on the joke" or avoid it altogether. This is what would happen at my DD secondary school.

I’d have been traumatised but then I was a very traumatisable child so it was probably fine

I also dont like the "weve been burgled" scene some schools do as a topic starter but dont ever actually say its not true..
