Hello

For those of you who haven't yet heard, we've got a new AIBU podcast hosted by Aasmah Mir and Lucy Porter. The most recent two episodes (follower MNer feedback) focus on AIBU classic threads.

Tune in to hear Lucy and Aasmah recount the tale of the Bridezilla who 'thought you might want to adjust the size of your contribution', discuss plans for a special hospicle for DHs who are very very not well with terrible colds, and agree fully with the demonisation of Spanish food-eating bastards eating Spanish food in Spain.

Download and subscribe on Acast, Spotify or Apple Podcasts (we believe we are also now on Stitcher and Podbean, if indeed those are real things)

WARNING: still contains fizzy piss noise. SORRY to those of you with applicable misophonia.

Let us know what you think!

Thanks
MNHQ

I am only going to listen if stuff gets darker on and spiders rub their willies on my face: or in my ear......
Yes, I have been here forever! Smile

RowanMumsnet · 22/05/2019 12:22

Oh, good shout - we'll send over the washing line thread for their attention

I was disappointed by the podcast. Apart from the sound quality - not the hissing but the echoey tin box and then different sound quality when Mark Dolan for instance was down the line. It's sounds amateur. Surely there are better profession studios that can be used that don't echo like an empty portacabin?

I'm also not crazy keen on Lucy Porter and though I usually love Azamah Mir she mainly seems to get to guffaw at Lucy's jokes.

But my main complaint is that they just use AIBU as a springboard for their own humour which isn't half as funny as the wit and wisdom of the many Mumsnet contributors. I'd much refer to listen to some of the classics read out using most of the best witty responses. As they occurred not just Lucy Porter's replies. It's just not as fun and funny as an unrolling thread. Balonz! Fly seat! All of thise.

Sorry to be negative. I was looking forward to it!

This has become my 'I am caught up on all my usual podcasts and I literally have nothing else to listen to' podcast.

Sorry but I hate it. And I hate myself for listening (will have to find another podcast so can unsubscribe to this)

I find it a bit patronising and self congratulatory. And not funny. And I usually love Lucy porter.

RowanMumsnet · 22/05/2019 14:00

Oh. Oh well, thank you both for giving it a try anyway!

On it, thank you!

@rowanMumsnet I want to download onto my phone (android). There's never an option to download, just to listen which I can do with Wi-Fi no problem but I want to take it out and listen and don't fancy using up all my data allowance Confused

RowanMumsnet · 23/05/2019 11:14

Do you have Spotify or Acast installed as an app on your phone? They can give you the option to download so that you can listen when you're offline or out and about.

Listened to a couple of minutes of it and had to stop and uncurl my toes. I hate 'men are useless' talk amongst women. And yes, the presenters do think they're hilarious.

BadHairDyeDay · 23/05/2019 16:44

@rowanMumsnet Got it now thanks! Can't wait to listen to it now Wine

I didn't like it. My favourite podcast is Older and Wider with Jenny Eclair. The humour in that is very similar to the best of MN and JE is a professional comedian.
Unfortunately The MN presenters just aren't in the same league and put too much of themselves in.

karala · 23/05/2019 18:43

I had to stop listening on the bus today because I was SNORTING in the most unladylike way - I was listening to the things you might say during sex or when stuck in a traffic jam.

I love those women and I second (or third/fourth/fifth...) doing little radio plays

Mysterian · 23/05/2019 20:27

The humour in that is very similar to the best of MN and JE is a professional comedian. I think Lucy Porter would say that she is as well, and many people who have seen her would agree.

It's quite good, but you might as well just read the threads if you're on here anyway. Might be appealing to non-Mumsnetters. I think it could be better with 3 people in the studio leading to more variation of conversation.

And I must say that as a wannabie comedy writer (failed), and especially as one who wrote a script with Lucy in mind for a character, it was really cool to have one of my comments read out by her. Grin
