Does anyone know what this type of door knob/lock is called and where they can be purchased?

Thanks.

I love me a sturdy knob. Grin

You must go to a different B&Q to me. Staff at mine don't know where the door is never mind a specific knob.

Who knew there were so many knob connoisseurs on MN.

It's a modern version of an Edwardian knob, used at the bottom of the attic stairs to the servants quarters.

Although we have one on our shed door which is old but not that old. I think it came from B&Q but may have been Homebase before they closed them.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/05/2019 23:13

I'd also hoped for a different type of knob pic. 😂

musicposy · 15/05/2019 23:14

Glad you have found your perfect knob as I was just looking on eBay at vintage yale latches / door latches and found a few.

They aren't my idea of a perfect knob, but each to his own....

Architectural salvage and retro shops.Ludlow has a shop full of knobs and knockers and the like.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 15/05/2019 23:23

This is the shop you need, OP, it'll meet all your knob related needs.

LellyMcKelly · 15/05/2019 23:35

You can’t beat a couple of harey knobs.

After a disappointing start, I am so happy that it's a RIM sashlock

What's with the sudden appearance of massive emojis? [santa]

LellyMcKelly · 15/05/2019 23:37

Reminds me of a joke.

Why did the bald man draw rabbits on his head?
Because from a distance they looked like hares.

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/05/2019 23:43

I'm remembering Simon Groom on Blue Peter talking about "a lovely pair of knockers"...

NC4Now · 15/05/2019 23:43

OP, I suggest you try your local hard ware shop.

Tell them you’re looking for a knob with a flange rim. They’ll fix you up.

TinselAndKnickers · 15/05/2019 23:46

I too am searching for the perfect knob - the one I invested in doesn't seem to last that long these days

FurrySlipperBoots · 15/05/2019 23:48

Do they respond smoothly when you grasp them, or can they get pretty stiff?

LellyMcKelly · 15/05/2019 23:50

Sometimes they do need a bit of lubrication. I find it helps if you run a bit of WD40 round the rim.

Megs4x3 · 15/05/2019 23:52

This reminds me of when I needed one of those many years ago. There are actually dozens of different types and sizes because they were made at a time when little was standardised. Anyway I went to an old style independent hardware store, you know the kind that sells anything and everything but it's a wonder that anything can be found at all as it's in such a muddle.

I handed over the lock to a man who looked as old as the building and he looked it over, grunting all the while. He didn't say a word, but turned to some bins behind him and rummaged through them for a few minutes. Then he shuffled off to the back of the shop and I heard some scraping and banging and some more muttering for a few more minutes and then he shuffled back, said 'This is the one, 10/6. Er, please,' and held his hand out for the money.

It was quite the experience.

I don't think shops like that exist any more, but you might find something at an architectural salvage place.

Ahh such a tease OP
