To ask where to get good art?

Not many people I know, in person, have much art in their homes and so I am asking here. Seems a reasonable place to ask?

Anyway, for those into art, where do you find your pieces for your home/collection?

I won’t have prints in my house either.
I love watercolours and abstracts. And seascapes. I started collecting about 4 years ago.
My first purchases were from artfinder. From America, Brazil and Hungary. Small pieces, under £100.

I have also been on a few art trails, where artists open up their homes and sell. I made some great friends this way and aquired some fantastic art at a slightly lower price.

They have to mean something to me, I have to love them. And my budget is absolutely tiny, but once a year I bring home some more art.

I've bought some amazing art from the halcyon gallery in London. Pretty sure they take a huge amount of commission BUT they had the exact pieces I wanted.
Art is a joy to have, a great alternative to jewellery imo

The Royal Academy summer exhibition!! Obviously they have pieces that are five or six figures but they also have smaller pieces especially in the printmakers room upstairs. You can get a numbered signed Norman Ackroyd etching for around £300.

I am a great fan of Open Studios I have quite a bit of art that I have bought at our local ones. I will go to the taster exhibits in local landmarks to narrow down the artists I would like to visit.
I always, always buy because I like the piece not because I see it as an investment.

Well if you like Dali then you can get his etchings for quite a reasonable price. But beware. There are SO many fake Dali out there. You have to be really careful who you buy from. A reputable dealer who specialises. Most of the modern masters Picasso Chagall miro. Have been quite heavily faked. But if you buy from someone decent you will always be ok.

Always ask for a discount. It’s the norm these days

I buy pieces (usually limited edition prints as I don't have your £££) because I love them and they mean something to me. It seems a bit soulless to me to buy art from a website - or rather, I would buy online but only from an artist where I'd already seen their work in a gallery. I love www.katelycett.co.uk/ because she paints the scenery where I grew up - beautiful hand embroidered paintings. I'd also like to plug www.michellelucking.com/ she used to be a colleague of my DH and left to pursue her painting - she is very talented. I'm saving up!

Local galleries
Local art exhibitions (check your library, and local art groups - if you PM me your location if you're anywhere near me I could direct you...)
Artfinder.com
Affordable Art Fair
Local art festivals (if you're up north - Patchings?)
Mall galleries in London (hosts wonderful women artists a few times a year)
www.hampshireopenstudios.org.uk - If you're in or near hampshire this is an art trail with open studios. You'll get to meet the artists. Most counties have an open studio trail, it will be a particular time of the year for each county. Have a google.

Go to St Ives in Cornwall. There are LOADS of galleries there, at least 50 or 60, to suit every taste and pocket.

I have paintings in my house that are very expensive but sadly not mine! A local artist who is pretty well known is a friend and I'm looking after them for him 😀😀😀

Art nowadays is underrated for some reason, people just don’t seem interested in buying art anymore, and it’s not because of the price, for sure. I’ve been buying paintings myself for a long time and they cost pennies in comparison to the stuff that other people buy to decorate their house, be it statues or different type of technologies. For me art always has a place in my heart so I’ve been always looking for the best quality, but since I found print-services.com I didn’t have to look on any other website anymore. They have insanely good quality, and even the option to choose the effect of the painting or mural. I recommend their service as a loyal client that already has 8 paintings from them.
