I am in agony with neck pain. Changed pillows to get that hotel bed look and now cannot sleep! I had an old memory foam one that was getting uncomfortable too. I’m a side sleeper. Any recommendations?

Pillow buying is so hard. It's similar to when your brand of pants is discontinued. You have to spend money to experiment until you find what suits you. It's a pain but u recommend going to a big store that sells pillows so you can try things out. Also of you Google what a healthy sleeping opposition should be like then took can avid the beautiful but too fluffy "hotel look" pillows in future!

We have always used Dullopillo. They are expensive but do last years.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/05/2019 07:08

Go to John Lewis and try a few.

Baavet wool pillow.

See, I caution against expensive pillows because my MIL (who is a nurse) was told in a training event at her work that after a year of use, half of the weight of your pillow is dust mites and their droppings Shock so I now replace my pillows every year. Although I am now so concerned about the environmental impact of that that I’m considering just reverting to living with the dust mites. It’s not a great choice overall.

I’ve been to a department store & tried a few but just couldn’t tell after a few minutes, it’s not till you actually sleep you can tell. So far spent a small fortune!

I had bad neck pain, could never find a pillow the right height. Then we got a Simba mattress which came with two pillows. They have memory foam beads which you can remove or add to change the depth of the pillow. Amazing. So expensive to buy though.

Jellybean100 · 15/05/2019 07:13

I’ve got a dunlopillo latex pillow and it’s heaven. I have a pillow protector on it too because it was so bloody expensive. Hopefully that sorts out the dust mite situation? Grin

Watching with interest as I have the same problem

NoParticularPattern · 15/05/2019 07:14

We’ve got pillows from dunelm that are just massive slabs of memory foam. We love them, had them about 8 years now and they’re like brand new still. They were about £35 each but so worth it not to have that horrible neck ache that comes with the wrong pillow! Don’t think they make the exact one any more but this one www.dunelm.com/product/temperature-controlling-memory-foam-firm-support-pillow-1000071824 is the most like it.

My mum has wool pillows from baavet and loves them. We might consider them when ours are knackered but currently very happy with what we have!

We switched to Otty pillows and I'll never look back. They're rectangular rather than squishy, is that makes sense, but mould beautifully when you lie down on them.
I've attached a picture of mine in the hope that it kind of explains what I mean Grin

Another vote for dunlopillo, I've been using them for about 15 years. They last ages as well - I'm on my second one after having the first for 11 years, but there was nothing wrong with it, just we got bedbugs so I burnt everything I owned. They're about £40 and there's an extra thick one for side sleepers.

To the PP binning their pillow every year (😱), you can buy dust mite covers.

Doidontimmm · 15/05/2019 08:18

Thank you! Will get onto it today :)

I actually looked up memory foam pillows on dunhelm website which tells you which are for side sleepers rather than back sleepers. Didn't know there was a difference but maybe that's why some pillows simply don't feel comfortable depending on how you sleep.

Doidontimmm · 17/05/2019 12:39

Been & bought the dunelm one. Fingers crossed I sleep tonight!

Watching with interest, very same situation here!

I always thought memory pillows/Dunlopillow would be too solid/high.

Let us know how you get on OP!

Spam88 · 17/05/2019 22:21

Dunlopillos are really soft, nothing like as hard as memory foam.

SimplySteveRedux · 17/05/2019 22:25

The Simba Hybrid pillow is amazing. Not cheap but has helped my neck pain, and ability to sleep, tremendously.

han01uk · 17/05/2019 22:54

I got a mediflow water filled orthopaedic pillow after suffering with months of neck pain, headaches and general feeling of not sleeping well. Bit dubious at first about filling it with water but it is really really good! Recommend you try if you don't have any success with your purchase.

Doidontimmm · 18/05/2019 09:23

First nights sleep, still some pain, but no headache or nausea, fingers crossed pain free tomorrow. I slept for 10 hours too. Result!!!
