Put on 3st in 3 years - how to lose it in a year and keep it off

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 22:56

I have lived the majority of my life as a size 10 -12, with my weight between 10 - 11 1/2 stone (I’m fairly tall and carry weight wel). However in the past 3 years have put on around 3 stone which has sort of crept up and now I feel huge.

Am wearing clothes between a size 16 - 18, feel lethargic and unhealthy.

So - I’m now committed to losing the weight but would love to hear some inspiring ideas and stories of others who have lost weight in this situation.

Well, you could join the LCHF Bootcamp thread under weight loss on Mumsnet. It’s just starting this week, and never too late to start.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 14/05/2019 22:59

No silly diets. They don’t work long term. It’s about changing your mind set. Exercise and think about the food that is going into your body.

OwlinaTree · 14/05/2019 23:00

I lost just over 3st with slimming world. Took me about 18 months.

ShagMeRiggins · 14/05/2019 23:00

Ps—I know it feels shit. There might be other programmes that work for you. I’m a Bootcamp fan (nearly 3 stone down), but others might suggest a programme that’s better for you.

Anyway, best of luck.

OwlinaTree · 14/05/2019 23:01

Have kept it off now for about 18 months.

Thelineisadottoyou · 14/05/2019 23:03

It’s about finding a new way of eating that works for you. I lose weight really quickly eating low carb but it makes me miserable so I follow slimming world which makes me lose slower but I don’t feel as deprived. My friend is the complete opposite and loves low carb.

Oysterbabe · 14/05/2019 23:04

There's no right answer as the best diet is one that you can stick too. For me that's intermittent fasting.

Finfintytint · 14/05/2019 23:06

I put on a lot of weight after a leg break and a depressive attitude towards excercise and diet. Lost loads with avoiding any food labelled “ low fat” ( it’s full of sugar), avoided any ready meal and cooked from scratch.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 23:07

@ShagMeRiggins ooh which part of the forum is it in?

OP posts:
MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 23:10

See I love food - which is I almost think a blessing and a curse. A blessing as am happy to eat healthy foods, no fussiness but of course a curse as... well - I love food!

I do think I need to find some exercise regime too. I used to love classes at the gym - body pump, body attack etc - but just don’t have the funds at the moment for the gym I like (habe tried others but just love a certain gym). I do walk a lot with the dog etc but think I need to do some sort of exercise.

It is about finding something you love isn’t it - which is why I’m so interested to see what others have done

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 23:12

@oyesterbabe how long do you fast for? I actually think this might work for me as some days I’m just not fussed and others an ravenous.

noworklifebalance · 14/05/2019 23:15

Fast800 - you will shed at least half that weight in 8 weeks
Blood sugar diet/5:2 - for maintenance
HIIT on DVD/YouTube - in your living room; quick, cheap, convenient and bloody effective.

Good luck!

noworklifebalance · 14/05/2019 23:16

And combine the fast800/BSD/5:2 with time restricted eating, TRE, of 16:8 (16h fasting, 8h window to eat) or longer

Finfintytint · 14/05/2019 23:17

Can you revamp your garden? I did plenty of excercise last year overhauling the garden. Lots of lifting, cardiovascular stuff, tooing and frowing with wheelbarrows, etc. Got pretty muscular but was doing something every day over a few months.
I’m not a gym person but do like swimming and walking. Low cost or free.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 23:20

No work - I know I can google it but fast 800??? Gather that’s fasting then 800 calories but can you explain

Read how to have your cake and your skinny jeans too. It's a revelation. It's all about hunger directed eating, eating when you're hungry, stopping when you're full and eating exactly what you want right then.

It really details why diets don't work in the long term, as depriving certain food groups mostly leads to over eating in the long term.

I downloaded the book on iBooks for around £5 and I'm so glad I did. I feel liberated, but at the same time I'm making healthy choices because I know nothing is banned.

HiItsClemFandango · 14/05/2019 23:30

I've lost 3.5 stone with slimming world in 10 months

WalkingDownMadison · 14/05/2019 23:32

I liked that book - hunger directed eating - +hippo*. It's a quick read but good points.

Oysterbabe · 14/05/2019 23:32

I do OMAD (one meal a day) 4 days a week. I do Monday-Thursday and eat 3 meals Friday - Sunday. No calorie counting and your OMAD can be anything you like. It really suits me because I love food so a large satisfying meal holds a lot more appeal than a few low calorie ones. On OMAD days you have no calories apart from you meal, so just water and black coffee. I lost 20lbs in about 2 months and find it so easy.

Crustyloafs · 14/05/2019 23:33

Marked to read in the morning.

tastylancs · 14/05/2019 23:38

Another vote for fast 800. Michael Moseley.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/05/2019 23:50

Pooh one meal a day sounds right up my street.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_bootcamp/3584508-May-19-Low-Carb-Bootcamp-week-1

Bootcamp thread. Low carb, high fat. Might be for you, might not.

Whatever you choose, you can do it.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 15/05/2019 00:15

The low carb high fat might suit me - but I do love potatoes

It’s hard . I went from 13 to 10 , have now settled at 11 stone
Would Prefer 10 but it takes

Constant exercise
Constant portion control
No sweets , pizza , chips etc
Limited to no booze
A heavily veg diet (don’t really eat meat )

Basically a life of deprivation !!!

The diet period is manageable , it’s the keeping it off that’s really hard

I am erring with 5:2 as the solution
