Anyone else getting fed up of the constant headlines regarding Kate's 'recycled' outfits?

So, she's worn an outfit twice, big deal, maybe just like us, she has a favourite outfit she loves wearing. Surely she'd get flamed even more for wearing an outfit once.

Maybe she's just damed if she does and damned if she doesn't, but I say good for her!

None of my business but she is worryingly thin!

L1nkedOut · 14/05/2019 22:16

Anne is really left alone. She must be delighted.

EdWinchester · 14/05/2019 22:23

I think it's fine to comment on her clothes. I thought that was the general point of her.

But re-wearing something is not newsworthy.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 14/05/2019 22:34

Most women in the public eye rarely wear the same outfit twice. Kate's not unusual in that.
No one worries about how much the Queen's wardrobe costs. Is that because she's reputed to go round switching lights off and using Tupperware for breakfast? Or because she's not generally wearing outfits that younger people covet? (although I think in recent years she's been looking fantastic. Those hats are incredibly flattering on her).

glueandstick · 14/05/2019 22:59

I think she always looks lovely. And if I had clothes that looked and felt good, why would I go to the bother of having to find something else? I know she’ll have someone to do it for her. But it’d still be a ballache.

No negative press about that outfit- wear again. Shoes that are comfy-wear a lot.

powershowerforanhour · 14/05/2019 23:01

I'd love it if she and Meghan ripped the piss out of it by turning up in the same outfit to events. "Right Megs babes are we wearing the peach Chanel one with the Cartier earrings or the navy George at Asda /Elizabeth Duke combo today? "

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 23:02

I’m not usually one to hand ring about her weight, but she looks awfully thin in that. Has she lost a lot recently? It looks like it might be tipping into problem territory.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 15/05/2019 00:47

I have no problem with Kate rewearing. I think it sets a good example that fashion shouldn't be disposable- especially at those prices! I think the royals have a hard balancing act between maintaining some majesty and still appearing "in touch enough". Rewearing beautiful clothes is a good way to do this. Also kudos to Prince Philip, who has clothes in his wardrobe dating back to the 50s, I think!

BrendasUmbrella · 15/05/2019 01:37

Can't imagine her ever wearing something twice tho!

She has reworn outfits post engagement/marriage that she wore before as a celeb in Canada.

And Kate's not being criticized. It's praise. She's being set up as the salt of the earth 'keep calm and carry on' type and Meghan is being presented in contrast as the modern day Marie Antoinette who intends to spend all of Harry's money on diamonds...

Durgasarrow · 15/05/2019 04:25

It seems to me that wearing a piece of clothing more than once is a good thing.

shiveringtimber · 15/05/2019 04:34

I'm currently wearing a shirt that has holes in it because I've literally worn it to shreds but it's one of my favourites. If I like something, I'll wear it over and over.

shiveringtimber · 15/05/2019 04:36

Not suggesting she (or anyone else!) should wear damaged clothing but I don't see why wearing an outfit more than once would be an "issue".

AmeriAnn · 15/05/2019 05:00

Fuck me if I had a dress worth £1,750 I'd wear it all day everyday

Indeed! I agree, would do the same too

and I'd leave the price tag on - like the mad hatter.

Nobody talks about William's trousers do they.

NoYo · 15/05/2019 05:24

Looking at those photos, she is dreadfully thin. Considering that the camera adds pounds she must be tiny in person.

OKBobble · 15/05/2019 06:42

Ah I see what you did there. Dressed it up as a nice post abot Kate and then changed into yet another bash Meghan thread Hmm

HBStowe · 15/05/2019 06:49

Is she getting flamed for it though? Or is it just being noted?

There’s an amazing woman on instagram called Elizabeth Holmes (@eholmes) who does a feature called ‘So Many Thoughts’ which talks about the clothes Kate and Meghan wear to official engagements. She’s a journalist and has a real insight into the planning that goes into the outfits, and it’s always really interesting to hear her take on why an occasion might merit a repeat outfit or a brand new one.

I think it’s fine for repeat outfits to be noted in the media - as often as not, there will be a message behind the decision (for example, ‘see how relatable and frugal I am, you’ve already seen this coat twice before’ etc.) and it’s interesting (to some, including me, at least) to discuss the implications of that message.

Theclearing · 15/05/2019 07:18

I think they should be recycling much, much more. There’s no law saying they have to be clothes horses and let’s face it, wearing a £££££ coat twice is hardly cause for sainthood.

NoYo · 15/05/2019 07:26

Some of the comments on the Mail on this are priceless . "she wears lovely clothes. She'll be a great queen."
Really?!

shockthemonkey · 15/05/2019 07:30

I don’t think it’s meant to be a criticism, on the contrary actually.

What does niggle a bit is that wearing an outfit multiple times is not “recycling”, whether you’re royalty or not. It’s just normal.

Recycling is quite different.

YouFellAsleep · 15/05/2019 07:32

That's it, it's the 'recycling' part, it's not recycling, it's wearing it again.

BarbaraofSevillle · 15/05/2019 07:45

What sort of insane world must someone live in if they think that wearing an item of clothing more than once, even if 'high profile and in public' is worth commenting on?

Not wearing the thing more than once would be disgustingly wasteful for a start even if they all went to a designated high end very slim size only charity shop afterwards.

Nobody talks about William's trousers do they

Exactly. Most men, even those in the public eye will have a few suits, shirts and ties and just wear them ad infinitum. In fact, a few years ago, an Australian newsreader wore the same suit every day for a year (with a small selection of shirts and ties) to highlight the inequality between him and his female co-presenter, who had also received criticism for 'recycling' her outfits. Not one person noticed.

Fresta · 15/05/2019 07:48

I don't really see any criticism in that article- I read it in a positive way- there's even a section about where you can buy the dress and how flattering it!

lyralalala · 15/05/2019 07:49

No one worries about how much the Queen's wardrobe costs. Is that because she's reputed to go round switching lights off and using Tupperware for breakfast?

I think it’s because they can’t show adverts for the outfits and price tags. They have no idea how much the Queen spends on material or on Angela Kelly’s salary so they couldn’t begin to cost out an outfit.

Being able to show a D&G or Givenchy cat walk and expensive price tag gives a good start point for their ‘story’

BertrandRussell · 15/05/2019 07:55

“Nobody talks about William's trousers do they.”

Well they did after that famous picture when he was taking George to school.....Grin

CatIceCream · 15/05/2019 07:58

Recycling is buying something from a charity shop. I’d be well impressed if she did that Grin
