Not really an AIBU but posting for traffic.

I'm currently in a full time job but no longer enjoying it/ starting to actually hate it but have little idea of what I want to or can actually do!

Current job: activity co-ordinator in a nursing home

Previous jobs: various in bars, clubs, tourist attractions etc

Volunteer work: charity shops, community theatre groups

Pros:
receive good appraisals/ have won employee of the month type awards fairly regularly

Degree in Community theatre

Training/qualifications in dementia awareness, activity provision, DOLS, Customer care, safeguarding and Health and safety

Willing to travel

Very patient!

Experience in writing/delivering (basic) training sessions

Fairly quick learner

Currently earn min wage so am easily pleased with a fairly low salary 😂

Cons:
Possibly autistic (no diagnosis yet). Not a con in itself but I do struggle with some executive functioning skills and am not always good socially. A call centre or similar would be awful!

No high pressure environments!

Can't drive

Willing to train but have little spare cash to do so

Can any wise mumsnetters help?

I would suggest you trying a skills health check on nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/skills-health-check/your-assessments for a bit of clarity on the type of work that might suit you. There is also lots of great advice on the site too. Good luck 🍀

What about transferring into a similar role in a hospice day unit or other day centre setting?

Companion42 · 14/05/2019 20:29

I'll try that skills check, thanks!

I'm not sure I want to do the same job elsewhere to be honest. I think I've had enough: it's quite tough emotionally (and physically!) Though I do enjoy working with the elderly

If you're an activity co-ordinator could you look at something like event planning or a travel company perhaps? Or if it's more the helping people side you like what about training in physiotherapy/reiki/massage?

I don't think much of the National Careers skills check actually. The one on Prospects is better. (Quicker to do and gives more and better matched careers

Could you transfer your entertaining and teaching skills to an outdoor centre with animals or wildlife such as a sanctuary, petting zoo or riding school?
