dentist/fillings

I've had an extremely old filling come out - so old that it's white so it's around 40 years old, one of 3 that I've had. I've got extreme dental phobia and can't go to the dentist so am going to buy a filling repair kit.
Can anybody suggest a good one please?

I know I'm being unreasonable but I cannot go. I haven't been to the dentist since I had teeth drilled out without an anaesthetic because it didn't work.

Former dentist phobia here too. The dentist that petrified me is nicknamed ‘the butcher’ and even my dentist now knows of her and understood my fear. I didn’t go from age 7 to age 25. My dentist was so patient with me. As I hadn’t been for so long, I needed a fair amount of work. I would take headphones with me a d listen to music as the sound of the drills would give me a panic attack. I would have a panic attack standing outside a dental surgery (not even mine and not one I was going into). Just being close to a dental surgery was enough to tear me down. I am no longer phobic. Explain your fears, I’m glad I did

Thank you for sharing that story! I hope that boosts OPs confidence come more. I’m so pleased you got a good outcome.

The butcher.... wow. Says it all doesn’t it.

I have just starting having issues with a tooth that had a root canal done several years ago. My dentist has now referred me to a specialist as she suspects there is still infection in the tooth. I have an appointment this afternoon for a consultation. The cost for that is £150 and £775 for treatment!!! I think I need a mortgage!

Oh no 🤦🏻‍♀️ Re-Root Canal.

It’s expensive isn’t it! It’s not done on the NHS unfortunately as they just don’t have the equipment. Hope they’ve gone through your alternative options!

My old dentist recommend extraction over root canal any day.

It should never be really recommended. A dentist is supposed to always try and save a tooth and as a last resort extract. I would 100% say root canal over extraction every time. However, not all root canals are successful and re-root canal via a specialised is sometimes needed, doesn’t happen often but personally, I’d go extraction at that point. Just because of the cost and it’s not guaranteed to work the second time around
