To be absolutely done with eBay

I’m so disappointed. Ordered a pair of shoes, was sent the wrong pair. Out of kindness I sent them back to the seller who promised to send me the proper ones and who now claims they haven’t arrived. Hmm
So I’m down the cost of the shoes plus two lots of postage.

It’s only a tiny amount of money but it’s the principle that hurts me- I did the right thing and ended up down, whilst some nasty little scammer is having a good old laugh at my expense.

WIBU to sack eBay off forever?!

roses2 I bought an espresso machine that didn't work. The seller was polite and refunded that day. I offered to send a video it not working or return it but neither was needed before I was refunded. It's now clogging up my garage and I don't know what to do with it.

MagicKingdomDizzy · 14/05/2019 17:18

If you have tracking on the package and can screenshot the track and trace confirmation then eBay will find in your favour. Also the seller should foot the bill for the return postage and the cost to send out a new pair.

So the seller should/will be out money, not the buyer.

Fatasfooook · 14/05/2019 17:20

Maybe the eBay seller is telling the truth? Maybe they haven’t arrived?

iolaus · 14/05/2019 17:29

I had similar happen before (except for the fact they tried claiming that I had received the correct shoes and was sending them a picture of a different pair to try and get a refund- a different pair which they also happened to sell - they were the wrong colour)

I just wanted the shoes I'd ordered and not to pay to return them (they wanted me to pay to return them and said they would then send the correct ones)

Got ebay involved - who refunded my money and told me to keep the shoes,

DontCallMeShitley · 14/05/2019 17:42

Maybe the seller IS telling the truth that they haven't arrived, maybe they have provided the wrong returns address because they don't want the wrong item back. A look at feedback would give an idea.

OP, open a return with Ebay and enter the tracking no. into the return details. Then keep an eye on it for attempted delivery because if it has been attempted you get a refund.

BlueThesaurusRex · 14/05/2019 17:44

Maybe fatasfoook that’s also a possibility. In which case we both lost out instead of just me! Im just feeling a bit down at the minute and this is one of those last straw things!

I bought a lovely pair of shoes on eBay. One fit perfectly, the other not so much. When I had a look they sent me a left size four and a right size 6. I queried it and they said "oh, that's how they're listed" - no, it was listed as a size 4 pair of shoes! eBay quickly found in my favour.

BlueThesaurusRex · 14/05/2019 17:46

It’s now showing as delivered! Hopefully the seller will do the right thing and refund. I’ll know for future though not to pay for returns postage if I’ve been sent the wrong item

I've had such problems with eBay recently. I use it a lot for small purchases like phone covers and screen protectors, chargers etc. Nearly everything I have bought in the last few months has either been broken, the wrong item or never arrived. It never used to be this bad.

ShitAtScarbble · 14/05/2019 17:48

So if you sent the parcel 'track and trace' then you can check online on the Royal Mail website. You just enter the number/letter code on your receipt and it will show whether delivered or not.

Gosh, that must be so frustrating! May I suggest you put in on Freecycle and perhaps some clever engineering type can fix it and make use of it?

Marmablade · 14/05/2019 17:52

AlaskanOilBaron that's a good idea.

TeacupDrama · 14/05/2019 18:26

@alaskan is something is broken the decent seller will generally just refund to cut their losses you have your money back there is no point in paying I imagine £6-7 to get a broken machine back to put in your own bin, once they have refunded the item is yours to bin, recycle sell on repair and use

I sell some breakables as part of my ebay business I pack really well as I don't want to have to refund as the vase or whatever arrives broken but if for some reason the vase did arrive broken I certainly would not want broken glass returned ( in fact it is against Royal mail rules to post broken glass) I would after seeing a photo of broken vase ask you to please dispose of it carefully

AlaskanOilBaron · 14/05/2019 18:36

Far worse for a coffee maker to go straight into a landfill than a glass vase.

Marmablade · 14/05/2019 19:53

Our local recycling centre takes electrical items but I can't get to it during its opening hours (blame the cuts!) So I've hung onto it because I feel guilty binning it but have no use for it hence Freecycle is a good idea as (unless they're CF trying it on) they can collect.

DelusionalDog · 14/05/2019 20:02

even if they accept the item and refund you (the original cost and postage) you can still claim your return postage back from paypal (its an offer they do)

DontCallMeShitley · 14/05/2019 21:03

OP did you open the not as described case? If so, the refund should be automatic once the tracking shows as received.

Jazzybeats · 14/05/2019 21:24

I’m struggling with something similar right now. Except the item is £200, Hermes. Claim I rejected delivery and the seller hasn’t received the item back! Utter farce and it’s looking like eBay will size with the seller as the tracking says I refused delivery even though that’s patently a lie.

TeacupDrama · 15/05/2019 17:31

if you refused delivery I think courier have to return it to seller, they may not have to refund the postage but they will the item cost
you can claim return postage if it is not as described you can't if you change your mind
