thinking Newsbeat should not report on BDSM bands?

Hatari: The Icelandic band bringing BDSM to Eurovision www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-48214450

It’s about the Eurovision. That’s fine, whatever, it’s intended for adults, it’s on at night.

But Newsbeat (Newsbeat ffs!) is reporting on this band. The text accompanying the interview defines BDSM. The first question is ‘should every band have a gimp?’

Why can’t fetishes stay private? WTF are the bbc introducing kink to children?

Who the fuck decides that’s okay?!

It's not about the link existing, it's about it being so public. What happened to SSC? Don't do things in public, it's not fair on the unwilling participants. They didn't consent.

kink not link

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/05/2019 19:35

We get it, you're vanilla. That's not a ticket to moral superiority, it's a kink just like any other.

The problem is this 'kink' is being used in multiple gruesome murder cases to justify killing women. I couldn't give a shit what two consenting adults do, fill your boots. I care that normalizing something dangerous is leading to deaths, and the right of men to get away with torturing and murdering women is being supported.

God there's a whole shedload of ignorance about BDSM on this thread.

Where? There’s absolutely no discussion about BDSM on this thread beyond the thing that it exists. (Unless you count the flippant remark about John Craven in restraints...)

There’s a bunch of people can’t wait to shout about how cool they are about it though - at least relative to this vanilla, pearl-clutching, vexed, would-be censor.

I know some PP are going out of their way to show how ‘cool’ they are but I agree with you OP. There are thousands of potential news stories daily and an editor has to make a decision on what will make the cut. If they’re pushing an certain agenda, they will select stories that support that agenda.

Why did they decide that a story aimed at normalising being slapped about and choked during sex was more important than the report coming out today saying the UK was in danger of reaching US levels of inequality and talking about how we bridge that gap?

Why would an editor feel this story was more important than the thousands of things which happened today to a 15 year old? Maybe the editor is a coke snorting Primrose Hill type who thinks they’re being edgy and subversive or maybe they want to normalise extreme sex so the next time a 15 year old girl is coerced into something she doesn’t want to do, she’ll try and convince herself it’s ok because it’s cool and everyone else is doing it?

I know people will jump on to say I’m being hysterical or uncool but I really do wonder about the MSM and their obsession with pushing sex on to kids as well as the high number of documentaries about murdering women.

WTF are the bbc introducing kink to children?

Erm... they actually do this quite a lot.

They've never exactly been famously keen on safeguarding children anyway, but now it's a bit more honest.
