To think cress is hugely underrated

I shop at Aldi and they don't sell cress. But today I went to Asda for something else and bought some cress. And omg I forgot about its lovely peppery goodness and how lovely it is with egg mayo. Why is cress not more popular? Should I complain to the head of Aldi or cress ombudsmen?

Completely agree OP, I always put 4 cartons of cress in a green salad, love that stuff!

StoatofDisarray · 14/05/2019 13:23

Agreed. Cress is delicious and now I want some!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 14/05/2019 13:56

I only ever really have it at Christmas on turkey sandwich’s, and always say I’m going to buy it more of it in the year

WeeDangerousSpike · 14/05/2019 13:57

I bloody love cress.

How come you don't seem to be able to get mustard & cress anymore? That stuff is delicious!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/05/2019 13:58

grow it on your windowsill. It's even better when harvested from an empty eggshell with some cotton wool in it.

Especially if you draw a wee face on the egg.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 14/05/2019 13:58

I’m all about watercress personally.

Teddybear45 · 14/05/2019 14:01

Cress is yummy but you only tend to find it in UK shops. The German ones rarely have them.

whippetwoman · 14/05/2019 14:03

This is my favourite thread title ever. I will now endeavour to buy and consume more cress!

IsoscelesSandwich · 14/05/2019 14:07

Man I love cress. Yes please ask Aldi to sell it. And oat milk while you’re at it.

Hornets · 14/05/2019 14:22

Another fan of the cress here!

I bloody love the stuff. I make my own sandwiches for work and really like it's fresh peppery taste. We're going to try growing it this year (with mustard).

Pepperdino · 14/05/2019 14:30

I'll have to investigate cress. Can't remember the last time I tried some.

A similar ingredient that I think is massively underrated is chives! So sweet and garlicy and oniony. Pack so much flavour for something that just looks like a bit of grass.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/05/2019 14:33

OP you may be singularly responsible for a cress revival, I haven't had it for years, love it and will be buying it next shop.

Lwmommy · 14/05/2019 14:37

20p for a pack of seeds in Lidl, just line an empty egg Carton with wet kitchen roll and sow each space in different days, you'll have fully grown cress in 1 week and can just re sow as you eat for a constant supply.

LittleAndOften · 14/05/2019 14:40

Cress is good for growing with kids on cotton wool etc.

A pile of stringy grassy stuff that won't stay on my fork let alone in my mouth? Noooo. A pointless vegetable imo.

Beaubird83 · 14/05/2019 14:45

Omg I was in Aldi today, and thought I saw cress. I was gutted when it turned out not to be and had the realisation they don’t sell it!
I really fancy it now since ‘seeing’ it and I can’t find any 😭

PrincessScarlett · 14/05/2019 14:47

Love cress.

SuperSange · 14/05/2019 14:58

I'll put a whole punnet in a tuna mayo sandwich. Mmmm.

AdaColeman · 14/05/2019 15:03

I’m not keen on mustard & cress, especially in egg mayonnaise sandwiches. But watercress is wonderful stuff, a really peppery bite to it. Chilled watercress soup is one of the tastes that make the summer!

Witchofzog · 14/05/2019 15:44

I an going to grow my own AND I am going to put a face on the egg as suggested above Smile

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/05/2019 15:45

I love it. I think people have been put off by buying egg and dress sandwiches where they leave the dress too long. I am going to add some to my shopping list.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/05/2019 15:50

This went down well at Christmas.

To think cress is hugely underrated
Crustyloafs · 14/05/2019 15:51

Love cress but it gets stuck in my teeth. :(

IncognitaIgnorama · 14/05/2019 15:53

Put it in a sandwich with bovril or marmite, and it's even more scrumptious!
