To ask for baby shower gift ideas?

I know mn hates baby showers - but in my friend’s defence it is a surprise one!

They have everything they need for the baby... but I want to get her something for her anyway. The baby is due in about 6 weeks. I am shamelessly posting for ideas! I’ve thought about massage vouchers or toiletries but they seem a little impersonal?

I think with these sort of things it’s easy to make impersonal things personal by providing an explanation - a massage voucher to a place where you had the most amazing massage or toiletries that you use when you’re feeling indulgent somehow become more personal presents. Having said that, my default gift is an excellent thermos mug; frank green do a nice looking one that isn’t comically large.

Do you know all the things they've bought? Things that aren't often on the "new mum" list but are useful: snoozeshade for the pram, a couple of nice hanging toys (for pram / mobile) plus good pram clips, aveeno moisturiser, close caboo sling, bubzi or ewan the sheep, bath toys etc. One nice jellycat toy can also be good if you're buying from a group of you.
You can get lovely books using the child's name from Wonderbly for after the baby's born, you could let them know that it's coming.

It depends on the person if you're getting vouchers or something for them. I hate getting "nice smellies" and have half a cupboard-full waiting to be passed on to others. Vouchers only if you know they shop in that place.

Oh yes, non-spill water bottles are great in hospital and the early days; Brita or similar.

FannyFeatures · 15/05/2019 07:22

Depending on budget I've given:
Burt's Bees minis for hospital bag - £10
Photobox photobook voucher - £30
Story book with name (not personalised just the name of the story) - £5
Bedtime bundle: sleeping bag, book, FP Glo seahorse thing - £30

Do they have a white noise toy for the baby? The best present we received was Ollie the Owl from the Gro company, it has a cry sensor. Our daughter adores him, we plan on buying one for our next baby too.

I'd give things for the mum to be.The parents and everyone visiting after the birth will have bought things for the baby, would be nice for her to have some pampering/nice things to make her feel more human after.I had pnd and would have loved things like that.

I was given an inkless footprint set which I did with DS just after he was born, the prints are one of my most treasured possessions. You can get nicely gift boxed sets off Not On The High Street.

Agree with things for mum. Nice bubble bath, nice pair of slippers, body cream, prosecco for after baby is born, some good chocolate etc

Stylemebabyonemoretime · 15/05/2019 08:34

The problem with buying things for the baby is either they will probably have it already or they don’t want it. Maybe ask her if there is anything she wants for the baby as a gift when the baby arrives and take it to the baby shower then you get a nice gift for Mum when the baby arrives.
