To freak out because I saw a rat in the garden...

Since the weekend, I have seen what I assume is a rat run across the patio 4 times now. What should I do? Do I need to immediately call pest control, or will it go away by itself?
I know this isn't really an AIBU, but I'm posting here for traffic, and to hear other's experiences.

OP have you seen the rat since? I saw one in my garden a few days ago and can’t stop looking out for more since. Have removed the bird table and cleared the bike storage box. I’m really hoping it was a one off sighting as I’ve never seen a rat before. I’m near a town centre so perhaps it’s searching further afield for food.
