School reception was rude to me

Do I have the right to be angry?
My son moved school and today I forgot to give him some money for a stall were they will be selling buns. So i went to recpetion to see if anyone could give the money to him because they always did at the other school. And she just said " I haven't got time for that I'm afraid I've got other things to do " and then when I walked away she said to other people in the corridor that she has other things to do not bother with that. Then I waited for the reception door to open because it's a lock one. Then she said the other woman that she said she could take it up for her but she can't bother with silly things like that. Im so angry should I complain?

Op she was rude. And yes I’d go in and complain.

Probably got a case of ‘I am the gate keeper’ syndrome like some GP receptionists do.

Cottonwoolmouth · 16/05/2019 07:54

Doingitmyway maybe you should change to another job which isn’t so demanding ....

emodi · 16/05/2019 09:40

I’m sorry but the receptionist was being a right cow . My kids school are pretty lovely they would help drop forgotten sports kits money for charity days etc . It doesn’t cost anything to be nice

EmeraldShamrock · 16/05/2019 09:55

Avalaura You have every right to rant, the receptionist was a rude cow, I am sure ensuring the children needs are meet at part of the job.
I wouldn't shy away, it is worth complaining about, I know the head in my DC school would be disappointed if it happened.
If you complain she will know you walked away with dignity but she was very wrong, it might stop another DC missing out, she sounds like a jobs worth.
Maybe the head can advise if this is standard practice, I doubt very much it is.

EmeraldShamrock · 16/05/2019 09:58

To add, I've no doubt it is a busy job, especially this time of year with book money etc, but kindness towards a new student should be top priority.

Avalaura · 16/05/2019 10:28

@EmeraldShamrock I completely agree with you

Ah thanks Cottonwoolmouth you’ve given me the kick I needed...I’ve resigned and been offered a job stacking shelves. Start in a month...so excited!

So so happy for you Doingit - I just hope no one asks you where the tins of pineapple are as obviously you don’t like to be distracted!

jarhead123 · 17/05/2019 10:48

Wow, very rude.

My kids school will always pass messages on or forgotten items

Doingitmyway · 17/05/2019 13:02

Cottonwoolmouth you are hilarious! I’m crying with laughter at your post. Obviously have the same sense of humour!

OP - have you reported the miserable witch yet or have I missed a message??

MidnightMystery · 17/05/2019 13:08

Yes she was rude! Perhaps get your kid a nice big muffin for after school x

If you had the money and asked them to pass it to your son then they were rude. You could speak to the receptionist or the head about their attitude.

maddening · 17/05/2019 13:59

Our school is small and would have no bother helping, just like I didn't mind working till midnight a few nights after work creating a school calendar to have printed to sell and raise money for the school. It is give and take.

BenjiB · 19/05/2019 13:37

My kids have been in 7 schools between them and reception have always been happy to either give the forgotten item to the children, or send a message to the child to ask the to come to reception to collect. I think if it’s their policy not to do that then there are more polite ways to tell you.

She was bloody rude!
