Can my employer bring this in just like that? My contract states given hours for past ten years - now they want us all to work extra 15 mins for no extra pay,

HR people can you clarify? (NB we don't have an HR dept - small company),

Thank you

That’s generous of you OP.

Can you suggest that those who can’t add the 15 mins on the end of their day have 15 mins off their lunch break as it’s an hour? That would keep it fair and prevent resentment growing.

Most people would not want to work for a company that only makes a some people work an extra 50-60 hours every year unpaid.

If they aren’t going to make everyone do it, then they shouldn’t reimburse the chosen few either with time or money. I don’t see how they can justify essentially giving some team members 50-60 hours off work.

Newsflash --- They've had a rethink - email received halting the changes until further notice .....

I think you should engage with them with your suggestion for volunteers. Good practice is to consult you for changes and consider other ideas put forward.

With that many staff thry should have had an all staff meeting and outlined the problem and asked for ideas.

Brilliant! Do let us know the outcome! :)

That’s good for you hopey, but I’m sure it doesn’t come as a surprise that not everyone is as lucky.
That extra 15 mins might mean the world of difference to someone so they have right to make a fuss, especially when it’s not being implemented fairly.

Good update op!

I’m glad they’ve had a rethink. If it does come back that they still want to instate this, I would suggest asking them if it’s possible for some people to work 8.30-4.15 and some do 9.45-5.30, they still get cover for the hours they want and you don’t have to work more or hour pay!
