I'm sending my application tomorrow. Question is, should I add a document addressing the selection criteria separately from my CV and cover letter?

The criteria is quite vast! I can't cover it in my letter without making the letter ridiculously long...I've heard you should always address the criteria...?

No not literally highlight them. Hmm

Tailored CV, covering letter with 17 bullet points covering each criteria, topped and tailed with brief paragraph.

While tailoring CV for each job is a good thing, but in reality people tend to apply for similar positions and therefore massive tailoring is not necessary. I forexample have a degree in health care and business. If it's healthcare related business then I tend to add one more thing about my health care background. Or if other business then I tend to not mention it. Other than that the same is applicable to majority of positions I apply.

Public sector - if it is competency based address each competency using the star method. If in doubt phone the hr department for clarification . I recently applied for and got a public sector job and had to phone her first as the application process wasn't very clear

Complete an ‘executive summary’
Basically a table. On the column in the left list the criteria they want. Column in the right bullet point how you meet each criteria. Then you have covered all criteria and can expand on those with example in your cv and letter. Good luck

I can't adjust my CV to suit the criteria...it's well put together and very specific. It would be ridiculous to alter it for every job application!

You should be, not completely changing it but tweaking certain words to match the advertisement. I work in retail management and almost always have to change the odd thing here and there. One ad might say cash control and another cash handling so I change my CV to the term used in the advert, or merchandising/stock display, targets/KPIs etc.

I have never edited my CV for each job, because the experience I have, is the experience I have. I have a section for jobs, and my responsibilities, and a section for IT/other experience, a section for education and qualifications.
I’ve managed to get on a masters course, and been given 2 jobs and 3 interviews using the same CV since 2010 (edited over the years). My cover letters are what get me an interview. I would never waste time editing my CV every time.

If it's public sector then it would usually be an online application, which tend to be very lengthy and you will have to address how you fulfill each criteria.

Lazypuppy · 14/05/2019 11:25

@HennyPennyHorror yes you should tailor your CV for every job you apply for...

HennyPennyHorror · 14/05/2019 11:26

Tantric it's not online.
