To think if you've not heard back

from a job interview that was held on 26th April, you've not got the job?

Dh flew out to a European country for interviews with a company on 26th April. He's heard nothing from them since. He's really keen on the role.

He has a recruitment agent that he is using to liaise with the company. The agent asked what his current package on Friday last week just in case the company wants to make him an offer.

The agent also said he knows of two other candidates that have already been rejected for the role at the same time as dh's interviews with the company.

The agent said two bank holidays in the EU have held things up. But they didn't hold up the rejections.

Poor dh. He's on tenterhooks waiting to hear but I just think they'd have given him an offer by now.

Am I being too negative?

No news is good news!

5foot5 · 13/05/2019 12:27

Maybe he is second choice and they are waiting for the first choice to make his/her mind up whether to accept the role before saying anything to your DH.

Cobblersandhogwash · 13/05/2019 12:29

God point. Maybe he is second choice.

I won't mention that to him though Grin as it won't be helpful to him and he has always immediate got every job he's ever gone for!

Agree with PP, he has not been rejected just yet, so hang in there.

PamelaX · 13/05/2019 12:35

they are busy ,they are contacting the 1st choice, someone has been sick, someone has gone on holiday, they are having an argument with the recruitment agency, who knows.

If it was a firm no, he would have heard by now. Hang in there.

Thatmustbemyname · 13/05/2019 12:37

It's really easy sometimes to reject candidates - you know instantly they're definitely not right for the job. But being certain of the right person is harder and can take longer. It's still relatively early days so I wouldn't say it's dead in the water yet.

Brefugee · 13/05/2019 12:40

No news is good news. If they have already rejected people they weren't a good fit. It's in a European country - is your DH British? Maybe they're doing a Brexit Impact Check?

I wouldn't give up hope for the job until i have that final rejection.
good luck!

IAmTheChosenOne · 13/05/2019 12:41

Having flown out, it's going to be a specialist role, yes, I would chase that. Or at least get the agency to do some prodding.

Cobblersandhogwash · 13/05/2019 12:44

The agency is calling today.

Dh is now getting asked what kind of package he would like from other companies he's interviewed with in the U.K..

He is trying to stall them as he doesn't want to mess them around should this European based job be his.

It's tricky to juggle. We'd love for him to get the job in Europe. We'd all go. But meanwhile, we need his salary too!!

I've literally just interviewed a woman who we'd employ if she were our only option, but we need to second interview a couple of others. That won't be for another week, and we've just had someone else who we might not see agian until the week AFTER that...

We were up front with her, and she's fortunately not in a rush.

foxychox · 13/05/2019 13:01

From bitter experience I can tell you that even the biggest companies leave you hanging for weeks, and for quite senior roles. It may be that the person that needs to OK the decision has been out of the office for a couple of weeks. I would say that he is still in with a chance!

Cobblersandhogwash · 15/05/2019 13:10

So the agent made contact with the company yesterday.

They apologised and said his contact had been working irregular hours because of Ramadan and they'd not had a chance to get together and discuss.

They will give dh a decision/offer (we don't know which) by the end of this week.

Fingers crossed they do and we can actually leave Limbo Land one way or another!

The bigger the company the longer it takes. We can take up to 3 months to make an offer...big US company.

Likethebattle · 15/05/2019 13:42

It took 8 weeks to hear back about my last role. I had another recruiter say ‘if you haven’t heard in 48!hours you haven’t got it!’ He was wrong!

Cobblersandhogwash · 15/05/2019 15:30

Just on how long it can take to hire someone in a bigger company - is it not a cause for concern that they may well lose their first choice of candidates because their hiring process takes so long?

Or are there so many excellent people out there to employ, it doesn't matter?

It can take ages. I have had to wait 6 weeks before getting an offer approved, even though the vacancy was approved before anyone was interviewed. It is really frustrating and I have lost candidates because of it.

Cobblersandhogwash · 20/05/2019 13:21

Still waiting.

Dh's agent is utterly perplexed. It's not a no because he's had several conversations with the chap who manages the recruitment.

It appears to be excuse after excuse like Ramadan affecting progress, the U.K./US time difference affecting progress.

The agent says it's not a no otherwise they'd have most definitely said so. All very frustrating. Almost a month since the interview.

He got the job. We are thrilled. And the pay is his offer is more than in job spec.

Excellent news. Sometimes it does take ages for director approval, HR input, bank holidays, annual leave, religious holidays.

Best of luck in your new life!

Alsohuman · 25/05/2019 12:03

Hurrah! Congratulations to your husband.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 25/05/2019 12:11

Amazing! Smile
