Posting here for traffic (sorry, not sorry).

My poor DS2 has chickenpox. He’s 17 months old and we are on day 3 of spots. He seems to be in absolute agony, didn't sleep a wink last night and is going berserk with the itching.

Here’s what I have so far....
Poxclin.
Calamine.
Antihistamine syrup from the pharmacist.

I’ve just bought Eurax cream and I will be giving him a bath with oats shortly.

The eurax cream says not to be used on under 3s without dr’s advice. Pharmacist didn’t mention this... has anyone used this before?

Also if anyone has any suggestions what I can do to make him more comfortable I would be really grateful. His nappy area is particularly bad. I’ve been leaving his nappy off as much as possible, but then he looks like he could rip his willy clean off so it’s hard to know what to do for the best.

I’ve used eurax on an under 3 no probs.

Virasooth! we used it on my dd when she had it, it's amazing stuff.

Oat baths are also great messy fun, and do sooth the itch

Good Luck x

Brilliant, thank you. I’ll use the eurax and get some virasoothe! Hopefully the messy oaty bath will be a good distraction for him too.

So the oat bath isn’t messy just put the oats in a muslim cloth tie to the tap so the water runs thru it. I regularly use an oat bath for my ds due to eczema.

Piriton helps the itch from chicken pox x

We used bicarb in tepid baths - the only thing that worked for my DD. She spent most of the day for about 6 days in the bath!

Aurorie11 · 13/05/2019 11:44

Or put the oats in a stocking or tight leg and tie the top

Heymummee · 13/05/2019 12:13

I’ll do that with the oats. Great suggestions thank you everyone. He’s sleeping at last. Flinching every few seconds, but sleeping.

Whilst I’m here, is a loss of appetite normal? I don’t seem to remember DS1 suffering as much at all, but it was 10 years ago so perhaps I’ve blocked it all out.

I had chicken pox when I was 37. My appetite was so poor I lost half a stone and I don't see any reason why a toddler shouldn't lose theirs.

I also felt complete crap for about a fortnight.

Hope your DS feels better soon.
